re: La Tech was up 5-4 in the 6th, Ole Miss won 4-3

Ole Miss would get the win in your scenario since the visiting team has been given a chance to bat and the home team took the lead in the bottom of the seventh. It would be treated just like the bottom of the ninth inning where the home team doesn't have to use all of its outs to win the game since scores can't go backwards.

So, should La Tech win even though they got more at bats than OM? I am no OM apologist, but someone would have to explain how that would have been fair.

MLB doesn't have the same travel concerns that NCAA has
Stop acting like La Tech can't afford to make the 4 hour bus ride back to Oxford or that Ole Miss and La Tech don't have a Tuesday or Wednesday free over the next month to finish the game.
It's really not that difficult.

Nope, that wouldn't be fair since Ole Miss didn't get a final AB. But it's also not fair that Tech got the loss.
Ole Miss acted like bitches though in saying they wouldn't reschedule the game.

Yeah, that's not how the rules work. It wasn't suspended. If the same thing had happened in an MLB game they wouldn't have finished it later since it was considered official after 5 innings.
You can blame Ole Miss all you want for gaming the rules, but don't blame the rules.

Well yeah, because Ole Miss refused to suspend it.
The rule was handled correctly, never said it wasn't. But if you can't see the blind spot of the rule, I don't know what to tell you.

The ump suspends games, not the teams. Ole Miss just didn't help things out.
It could have bit them in the arse too if they had finished the 7th down 5-4 and not gotten two more at-bats.

No you’re just being purposely obtuse.

Ole miss is staffed and attended entirely by pussies. This isn’t breaking news. It has always been that way.

Not tarping the field
I agree, unless they had a good reason (eg, quick onset of lightning in the area).

then when asked if they could complete the game at a later date, they said no.
Non-conference, wouldn’t it be surprising if they DID try to reschedule it? What would be the point?

quote:A regulation game is 7 completed innings, a completed game can be had after 4.5 innings if suspended prior to 7 complete innings and the coaches cannot agree to the game being halted and to be continued. Watching the LTU coaches interview it would appear Ole Miss; (1) did not put the tarp out which shows no intent to continue, (2) did not accept LTU's attempt to complete the game at a later date on LTU's dime, (3) did not move the game up outside the weather window when LTU presented the option. Ole Miss did nothing wrong by the letter. It's just not a good look for a coach/institution that over the last few years has shown they'll play in any grey area they can. They did nothing 'wrong', but also did everything the wrong way.
You can blame Ole Miss all you want for gaming the rules, but don't blame the rules.

Have already seen it reported LTU's coach reached out earlier this week and even Tuesday to push the game up both so they got it in

The game was pushed up to 3 PM from 4 PM.

They made zero effort to beat the weather or even tarp the field.
The game was stopped for lightning, not rain, by the way.

They refused any effort to resume the game at a later date.
How do you think contracts between universities work? Do you think Coach Bianco and the LT Coach can just agree to finish the game at a later date? What about travel? Expenses? Academics? It's not just as simple as "okay, we'll see y'all next Wednesday to play two innings."

Unless this situation arises, which can benefit either team in the end. Obviously baseball's play benefits the home team in general, this included.

Completely agree, but also the umpire ultimately calls the game over, not the coaches. It sounds like tarping the infield wouldn't have mattered much because it rained all night, but they could have moved it up. I know I've seen LSU move games up all the time to avoid bad weather.
These aren't weird college rules, though. MLB uses the same basic rules, and even if the two teams were playing again the next day it would have been declared an official game with the 4-3 score holding up. They only resume games if it's not a full 5 innings or if the score is tied at the end of the last completed inning.

In all of this hysteria on this message board, everyone ignores the fact Ole Miss was leading the game at the conclusion of the last inning played. That's glossed over time and time again. It means something because NCAA rules say it does.

No one will give a shite, but yes, this is what happened. Rain was expected and thunder and lightning along with it. However, some stray lightning made its way towards the ballpark before the expected rain made it there. At first, it was expected to be a 30 minute delay. But then the lightning kept popping and eventually the rain joined in.
