you underestimate how important is to work pitch counts for a pitcher that is dealing like the one we faced last night.
No I don't. It's important. But when you don't scratch across a run for 8 innings, it's simply not a good night for the bats. But our pitching and defense were on point again and Dugas came through with a bomb. Again, a great team win in a very tough environment.

Yes we have had a lot of strikeouts but between Iowas ace who will be a 1st rounder and Texas's arms last night we fared about like any team would. Texas is a blue blood that's breaking in a new roster and has been to Omaha 3 of the last 5 years. Legit talent vs legit talent in a big time atmosphere.

what made it a "bad night"
LSU had a "bad" night scoring runs and cashing in on baserunners (at least until the 9th). Too many swings and misses and not being able to move runners over. I don't think you will find a member of LSU's baseball program that will disagree with that.
In the grand scheme, we beat a quality program on the road and found a way to win against some phenomenal pitching. I surely don't expect to score double digits every game, but yes I'd say this was a bad night offensively for my Tigahs.

Yes, but we have a problem hitting solid pitching

That's not an LSU problem...that's a "everyone in baseball who isn't Dylan Crews" problem.

Exactly. If this team can scratch out wins even when the bats are cold they’re going to be very tough to beat.

SEC pitching is going to be even better.

The Texas starting pitcher threw a gem last night but Texas does not have a top 10 staff. They lost their entire weekend rotation and several bullpen arms from last year. Texas is currently ranked # 24 in era.

Good pitching always beats good hitting. Good news is that there is a shite ton more mediocre pitching than good pitching.

This is very true. LSU isn’t going to slug their way through the SEC.

Texas always has arms. There’s a reason they’ve been to 3 of the last 4 CWS

All of the relievers they threw were their normal weekend or high leverage guys.
The only one we didn't see, as far as relievers go, was the Arkansas transfer.

Pierce has had excellent pitching since he was at Rice
Even Tulane had really good pitching
He is a pitching guru and Texas pitching is stout even with their losses from last season
Texas is working in almost an entire new lineup and they need their offense to catch up with their pitching
They lost to three sec teams and two were very close with Vandy the outlier but you can bet the pitcher from last night will be throwing on the weekend for them soon
LSU has some pretty elite pitching too and Hurd is gonna get better and better as the season goes on

Didn't Texas?

can we admit Texas threw some solid pitching?
I stay away from here during baseball games because I don't want my IQ to drop by 40 points from reading the idiocy. But can I assume that by about the 6th inning, the Chicken Littles had declared that our offense was absolute trash and that we wouldn't make it out of a regional?
And can I conclude that there was that "one guy" (or many) who feels like we are doomed because we can't hit "good pitching"?

The pitching was elite, until the the 9th

This is an understated part of the strategy of baseball.
Sometimes, a particular pitcher just is a superior matchup compared to the hitters. In those cases, sometimes the best thing you can do is run his count up and get into the bullpen.
Not all strikeouts are equal. A 7 or 8 pitch strikeout with 2 or 3 foul balls is not nearly as bad as a 3 or 4 pitch strikeout.
