I am going to grind out GSLP through this summer to get some of my core lifts up. I am planning to switch over to PPSA in September. In parallel, I am looking to enhance my garage gym. Outside of power rack, barbell, curl bar - what sort of equipment do you need for PPSA?

- power block
- back extension / ghd
- lat pull-down ??

Open to suggestions md want to look this spring / summer on Craigslist for deals

Ppsa is mostly based around calisthenics and environmental obstacles

I use a feed sack full of chains and a big rock for most of the workouts

The adjustable dumbbells for sure (I also have powerblocks), kettlebells for swings and goblet squats (I’ll do one arm rows sometimes with KB or farmer’s walks). Might suggest a set of bands but not necessary. If 777 was here he’d tell you to get gymnastics rings

Personally I think a squat rack/bench rack (and barbell and plates obvi), a nautilus or bow flex adjustable dumbbell set, and some TRX bands are a great simple setup. I also got mats from tractor supply that are fricking great

I think PPSA is designed for home gyms, hence I don’t recall any lat pulldowns. I believe he uses pull-ups and rows in their place. You should definitely get a set of bands (for assisted pull-ups, pull aparts, tricep pushdowns, shoulder mobility). a 53lb kb would be nice but not essential as I don’t believe Kb swings are a big part of the programming and you can use a dumbbell for goblet squats

I've been able to fully complete: Arm Farm, DB Strength, Filling out the Hoodie 2, Pool Season, and currently Pump City.

My Equipment:
2 Barbells (Wonder Bar and Stainless Rogue Ohio Power Bar)
Rep Curl Bar
500 lbs in Fringe Bumpers
NUobell Adj DBs
KBs from 24 - 92 lbs
Rogue Adj Bench
Rogue SML-1 rack
Pull up Bar
Rogue Bands

I also added but not needed:
Rep Safety Squat Bar
Rep Open Trap Bar

Thanks for the feedback on this. I e-mailed Aaron as well, and he said:

Rack with pull-up option
Adjustable bench
Bar/ weights
DB’s or Power Blocks
Strength Bands
Curl Bar is optional, but not mandatory

My opinion is don't skimp on anything, you really get what you pay for in lifting equipment.

Any recommendation for adjustable bells (NUobell or Powerblock, etc.)? Do you size them up to ~90lbs per DB?

And suggestion on fair price - $500-600 bucks for a used set?

I have only used nuobells, they go up to 80 which is enough for me. I wouldn't throw or drop them but I love the speed in which you can change weights. The power blocks are tougher but don't have that typical DB feel and are slower to change.

Not an absolute requirement but a cable pulley for the rack or as a standalone tower is really nice for facepulls, triceps extensions, lat pulldowns (he has those in some programs as warmups but I often do a few working sets too) and if you have a tower then rear delt flies, lat raises, and curls are sweet with constant tension.

I got a set of Powerblocks off Craigslist for $500. The made in the USA ones that go up to 90lbs. Had to buy the 70-90 expansion from Powerblock though. They definitely feel different than a standard dumbbell but are rock solid and work for me. The made in the USA part was important enough that I didn’t get the nuobells but man are they awesome

A lat pulldown is really the only other piece of equipment I want.

I love my PBs but haven’t tried any of the others. Super easy to change weight between 10 lb intervals. I paid $500 for the U90 series 2 (70 lbs) new but that was several years ago. I want to get the third expansion set to 90 lbs soon
