I just finished both; I like the pacing of the Netflix doc way better but HBO really goes into depth on Steven

Watched the first one last night. Unreal how messed up this is.

My wife is obsessed with this case. We listened to the Murdaugh Murders podcast on a road trip, which is like 14 hours worth of episodes or something crazy.
So I've heard this story ad nauseum. We started the HBO series on it, and it just felt like we were rehashing the podcast and stuff we already knew.
The Netflix one, though, maintained my interest when we started it last night. The storytelling is compelling, and it has some interviews and footage that I've never seen before. They really went hard on the Murdaugh family and how screwed up they are, which helps, as they're pulling on punches.
That being said: dude is probably going to walk on the murder charges for his wife and son. The murder trial (according to my wife) has been interesting, because she said it allows you to see how sociopathically charismatic Alex Murdaugh is. He had jurors crying for his psychopathic arse when he was talking about the murder of his wife and kid (which he either did himself or knows how did it).

I don't recall the dad of Mallory (girl who died in the boat crash) being interviewed much (if at all) in the HBO series. He was interviewed a good bit for Netflix...the pain in that man's voice still sticks with me. Her mother could talk about it more than he could, that man was just broken by losing his little girl. I hope he is the one who killed Paul and no one will ever find out

Yeah, it was weird he said that when they called to get his alibi he said he was surprised they hadn’t called sooner.

The whole boat crash part was hard to watch especially the real footage of the boyfriend freaking out and the parents not wanting to call Mallory’s parents
We did all kind of crazy shite just like that in high school and drank just as much. Thank God nothing that serious ever happened

Alex Murdaugh found guilty of killing his wife and son. What a POS

Spoiler alert, jury said he murdered them…

Very happy that this was the outcome. After all the shite this dude has done over the years and gotten away with, I was sure that he was going to manage to get away with it. I think that the South Carolina legal system was tired of looking like a corrupt backwater due to this scumbag.

Still confused why both networks chose to a make a doc about an ongoing case/trial, seems like they could have just waiting another year or two until everything was settled (assuming thats how long it would be)
The trial was supposed to last 3 weeks. The State, knowing they had no actual evidence he murdered his wife and son, lobbied the judge to let his financial crimes in as evidence and testimony. That extended the State's case to 5 weeks alone and the total case was 6. The documentary was supposed to come out after the trial.

What’s confusing? They can take advantage of the current interest while also now having enough material for a second season that will cover the actual trial. It’s pretty smart to be honest

Dateline and 20/20 already had followups come on tonight
Posted on 3/4/23 at 6:45 am to Corso
Watched the Dateline follow up last night as I didn’t watch the trail. Zero evidence that guy killed his wife and son.

There is a documentary on HBO as well called:
Low Country: The Murdaugh Dynasty.
Both documentaries are very good.
I preferred the HBO Max one.

Man, watching this doc on Netflix, seems to me Paul, Alex, and Maggie all got what they deserved. Considering what happened with the boat wreck and it's aftermath.

That rotten family and their rotten dynasty needed to be taken down, and I'm glad for it.
But I will say this for old Ellick Murdawk. You bring your kids into this world, sometimes you got to take them out. Paul was a little piece of shite and and Ellick did the world a service by taking out that little malignant frick. No telling how many bodies that little malignant fricker would have piled up in his wake.
There is no doubt in my mind that Ellick saved some lives there by removing his rotten spawn.
