I want to get a section between my house and the mulch. Is there a rule of thumb for how wide that should be? And then how much should I buy per foot of garden?

Thanks for the help.

18-24" from the slab, depending on dripline. ((Length x Width) X .333) divided by 27 to get to cubic yards at 4" depth.

Look up landscape rock calculator. It will pull up a calculator that will convert the length, width, and depth you need. I just ordered 8 tons of pea gravel and used this calculator. LINK

I would think 2" to 2.5" would be enough rocks. You can always add more later. I have rocks in the front flour beds and after 20 years, we added 1" plus to the rocks.

We have landscaping boards along the outside part of the rocks. To drain the rain water, be sure to provide good drainage. Ours drain is about 5" wide to drain about 12 feet of roof. This is really to narrow. I Wish it were say 7 or 8" wide. The rock bed floods during a heavy rain, but does go down after the rain slows down.

How deep are we talking? Im thinking 2-3ft out and 5-6inches on top of doubled 6mil visqueen. But admittedly I'm not 100% sure.

I just want to easily kill bugs and weeds.

I did the perimeter of my old house and then filled a couple of the beds by my pool with rocks instead of mulch so it wasn’t blown into the pool.

All I’ll say is after doing 1 truck load and moving it in buckets I said never again and would just go to Home Depot every once in a while and fill the back of my truck with bags, it’s a little more expensive but the bags are easier to move around and dump and you can do the project little by little instead of having to shovel a big pile of rocks into a wheel barrow or buckets to move them into place.

It’s also always more than you think.

Another thing to do for weed control is put the bags down then dump the next bag on top of it, it’s like a free weed control fabric

I laid down roofing plastic as my weed barrier. Then did about 2" deep, 4 ft. wide, and one yard got me 36'.
