Well it was cold and wet! Got in a staring contest with a young buck at 20 yards, but he played his cards right and stayed behind some scraggly young trees, then bounced away.

Moments like that keep me coming back. Until next year, baws.

I turned the lights out at Tensas when I rolled outta there.

Now the squirrel hunters will run the few remaining deer left on Tensas to private land!

They better have their hip boots on. It’s a wet mess out there.

Heck yeah…it was just a matter of time with all the hours you’ve put in.
Congratulations

Give us the story. Chasing a doe? Feeding? Right at dark? I have always wanted to kill one on the last day.

Thanks, y’all. We’ve been getting pics of him for three seasons. I aged him at 5.5 years old.
Yesterday afternoon, I had only seen a spike where it’s not uncommon to see 15 or more. It just felt like it was over. I saw two dark deer at the back of the plot that leads out to the big field. Looked through my binos and wow. 20” wide. It was him. I’m confident to 150 yards with my .38-55 and have killed at 200. They slowly fed down the plot towards me. Two yearlings joined them. Most of the time, I’m watching that wide rack headed my way. At 110 yards, he turned broadside and I high shoulder him. Here’s a pic of him on the hoof.

He came out with a doe, but they were both feeding. He stayed close to her, but they both seemed more interested in feeding than anything. Maybe he would’ve chased her after dark.

Crazy to see a deer that age so careless late in the season.

Dandy buck. Fine job staying after him. You definitely put in the time for that one.

This is the only time of the year I’ve seen them.

The deer thought season ended on Sunday.
