The non-instructional day tends to lend to better planning during the week and a lot of staff in counties I've seen do it are able to bring in small groups of students for one on one extra service work.
So the stressed teachers still have to work on mondays? I get they can calmly plan and do the paper work in peace, but they still have to get up and go and put their kids somewhere, right? And how do these kids who need help get to school? They get a bus ride or lunches for that? I know that means still fewer buses and drivers, etc., but still. But i agree with closing Mondays for friday night games. How would kids get there to practice during the day or get there for away trips that leave early as normally they would already be there? Plus a lot of holidays are on Monday anyway. I have no real rat in the race as my kids are grown and I am not a teacher, thank goodness for both these days.

Sure, right after you tell basically every business in society they need to either shutdown an extra day a week or pay their employees for doing 20% less work.
Cut public school budgets by 20% and you can have a day off. Fair deal?
Teachers aren't getting the day off. They're still coming in to work on the 5th day. Likely doing intervention work, planning, etc.
Like I said, parents are welcome to step up and parent. Be resilient.

No thanks. You can do the job you're supposed to be doing. Or you can have you budgets and compensation adjusted.

The current system is set up to benefit employees, not children.
It will continue going that way because of the power the unions have.

No thanks.
And that, as it's always been in education, is a big part of the problem.
Always the expectation for everyone to step up except the parents. Then everyone wonders why kids are the way they are. It starts in the home.

They're doing the job they're supposed to do on those days. And saving you money by not doing it as extra service that they would get paid for after school hours.

I need to step up for you to get an extra day not doing the job you signed up for? I work with my kids every day. GTFO with that bullshite.

Kids with parents who care will be successful, those with parents who do not, will not be successful. We waste an inordinate amount of time trying to educate people that do not care.

Teachers miss the covid days of getting paid to do nothing. This is the first step in getting "back" to that.
Teachers should just quit and get corporate jobs.

They'll likely adjust the schedule where they still get the same number of instructional days/minutes. States have a minimum number of days/minutes they have to attend. So your kid isn't missing any instruction. It's simply structured differently.

They're still doing the job that has been asked of them. But instead of it being extra service pay, it'll be embedded in a work day. It will also save districts money in transportation costs. They're literally saving tax payers money.

I'm not sure why you don't unless you just don't understand how things work (certainly possible given how quick you are to jump to conclusions).
In most districts and in schools with students who need extra assistance, there is an ESS budget (extra service) where teachers are paid over and above their salary to stay after school with students who need academic assistance. Some districts will even utilize funds for an activity bus to transport those kids if they can't get a ride.
If they utilize that on the non-instructional day (and most districts that do this do) they save money in not having to pay those teachers extra pay because it's during a contract day AND they save money in transportation for students who don't need extra assistance.

So simple that yall get more time off Why not just do 3 12 hour day? Not like the kids retaining any of the information matters. Just cram it all in.

Like a dime of yalls budget would go back to the taxpayers in ths scenario How stupid do you think people are?

And for the vast majority that now need they kids to be watched on that extra day? They're saving money how?

Lmao, you believe this???
You believe the tax payers will save money??? The won't save shot they will just spend it elsewhere. It won't be given back or a reduced tax burden

Who's getting more time off? Again, teachers and staff are still reporting on non-instructional days. Are you just skimming over that?

Then take that up with the state congress that alots that budget, bud. That's not the school district's problem that their excess monies that go back to the state aren't spent correctly. Do you not understand how government works or something?

Districts I've seen do this have coordinated with community services to provide childcare if needed. And a YMCA worker is significantly cheaper than a teacher, so yes they're still saving money.
Why do you have this school district saving money for the taxpayers so much?

Again. That's not the district's problem. That's a politician problem. If you don't think the overage will be handled appropriately in your area then take that up with your local politicians. Hold them accountable.

You're getting time off from actual teaching. You think it's a coincidence kids got dumber when the actual interaction with teachers was down thanks to covid?

Or here's an idea. You can keep teaching 5 days a week like you signed up for

Except I'm already paying you for a full week.. Jesus, sure hope math isn't your subject.
