You don't have to play from the tips. I assure you your dick will still be attached if you play from the appropriate tees.

Signs you should not be playing from the tips: you dribble one off the tee ten yards. You hit a good drive for your standards and its only just beyond the front tee box.

Again no one is gonna think less of you if you play from the tee for your skill level.

Whew, I'm 46, so I'm exempt from this rant.

Most courses, I play the one ups. But I typically defer to the group I'm with. I rarely play the tips anywhere.

I've played golf all my life and I've never seen this to be a problem. Most normal golfers in this age range play the 1 ups, unless they are playing with a group that needs to be going from the tips.

I have played golf all my life and have always seen this problem. Sunday at grand ridge was a problem. frost delay so everything was held up. Watched 3 groups tee off in front us and all played from the tips. Out of the 12 golfers maybe 3 should have been playing those tees.

I alternate between tips and 1 ups.

Limited golf down here so it makes playing the same course feel different

Play a yardage not a tee.

The tips at Grand Ridge are no more than 10 yards different than the one ups on almost every hole.

I can see the OP rant for a lot of courses, but I played Grand Ridge over the holidays for the first time and was surprised that the tips were only around 6400. I think the tips would cause delays more so because of wayward shots, not short shots.

I am just using GR as an example. I see it everywhere. Also if you're someone who shoots in the low 100s why would you even want to do that to yourself? Why make things tougher on yourself and slow down play?

Think it depends on the course honestly.. there's a really old course I play a lot and the difference between the tips and up tee's is little to nothing on some holes.. So I play hybrid of the two a lot.. Just depends on the shot i'm wanting to take..

Now some modern course's I play and one in particular the tips and up tee's are super long.. hell one par 5 from the tip is 654 and up tee is 600ish... No matter how you slice it for a straight up amateur that sucks..

So while I do agree you run of the mill hacker should not be playing from the tips.. but miss hits happen especially on the 1st tee box.. So relax and enjoy the day playing

I typically do play the one ups regardless of the distance, but I could see someone wanting to play driver more. Hitting the driver is fun. If you're a sucky long hitter, it might be more fun to play further back even if it's more difficult.

and slow down play?

But I agree, your decision should never slow down the play of others.

I never see this. In fact, I see people playing really short tees way more often.

All courses should designate tees by handicap, not mens, ladies etc.

I do play the 1 ups almost all the time with buddies but I really prefer the tips on account of how god damn far I hit the golf ball.

That's because most of them opened this thread thinking you were offering discounted Viagra.

I hit it 275-300, but I'm a 6 hanicap, what tees should I play?
