Was looking at doing a Vermont ski trip with family, they are $200 plus for those pitiful mountains.

It is hard to justify that cost, when you can pay the same for Western mountains.

I grew up skiing in the Adirondacks and Green Mountains, wanted to take the family there once. Stowe, Killington, Gore and Whiteface are not worth that kind of money.

The lift ticket bubble needs to burst

$200 for Vermont is terrible. Can’t understand why anyone would ski there unless it’s driving distance.

We literally just book flight and condo at park city last night. Didn’t really think about lift ticket prices, now I’m scared to look

Considering that movie tickets are more than $20 I would take a look so you know how scared to be.

That is the strange part. Locals get cheaper tickets or just get season passes.

How could one want to spend $200 at Stowe or Killington, when it is roughly the same for any Colorado or Tahoe mountain.

I spent 7 years of my life on those North East hills and there is no damn way they are worth it.

Most places are on Epic or Ikon. If you ski or plan to ski, you buy one of those passes.

Those dates look like Presidents Day which is likely a blackout day for base passes. However, those 4 day rates is about what a full season Epic pass cost for an adult.

Snow skiing is out pricing itself just like golf has.

Yeah, you need to buy Day passes early if you want to ski on a vacation or get the full passes. I bought a 3 day epic pass and I think it came to just under $100 a day, price is now easily double. There are places with cheaper prices, Whitefish is one and some Canadian resorts.

Joins pro sports (esp NFL) and high profile concerts as activities I once did but don't care to do anymore.

$200+ for a few hours of entertainment had better be really really good. $600+ had better involve sitting on the piano bench with the ghost of Ray Charles or Beethoven.

You missed the cutoff this year, but epic or ikon is a must these days. Got my 6 day pass for $495. Went to breck, keystone, and vail one day each and going to park city for 3 more in two weeks.

To your original point, can’t believe Stowe is that high. I love the mountain, but that is ridiculous.

Wow, I had no idea what lift tickets were going for. In the early 80's we'd go to King Soopers in Boulder (yeah - the shooting site where 10 died last year) and buy lift tickets for $15. Different world in 1981. Lots of cool stuff now but I'd be happy to go back.

It’s expensive because the northeast has a ton of people that are within driving distance and their season is short. So if they get good powder they are slammed with “locals within driving distance.

I also don’t quite understand the business model with the season passes and the daily rates. Tons of locals will ski weekly or more often from places like Denver in Colorado and it works out to $25-50/ day or less but the daily dickers are $150+. If there is fresh powder on a Friday it’s slammed with locals with passes. Just seems like the passes should be more inline with daily. But it is what it is.

Begining this season Stowe implemented paid parking for their lots. $30/day on Fridays-Sundays and holidays until 2pm. Parking is free if you have four or more people in vehicle, which really targeted locals. Stowe did sell a limited number of ski season parking passes at $450 a pop which immediately sold out.

Jay Peak is still only $100/day, which is a good option for those that like lots of snow and tree skiing.

Absolutely. And they do you are right. But plenty of them also drive in in the morning, eat lunch and a beer on the slope, and then drive home that night. Or stay with friends or family.

ETA: in order to be good you have to be well liked by the locals. So that goes a long way.
