Hero of Democracy” Zelensky Gives His Government Powers to Restrict Media, Block Websites

Biden would be proud. This is what he wants for us too…

On Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed off a controversial bill that substantially increases the government’s regulatory authority over the news media. The new law will give the government new censorship powers and is a fresh blow to press freedoms in the country.
quote:
The legislation significantly increases the powers of Ukraine’s state broadcasting regulator to allow it to regulate both the print and online news media. Further, it allows for fines to be imposed on media outlets, their licenses to be revoked without due process, and even some websites to be temporarily blocked without going through the courts. Finally, it gives the regulator authority to order search giants such as Google and other social media platforms to remove content.
quote:
The coercive regulation envisaged by the bill and in the hands of a regulator totally controlled by the government is worthy of the worst authoritarian regimes. It must be withdrawn. A state that would apply such provisions simply has no place in the European Union,” said EFJ General Secretary Ricardo Gutiérrez. “Media regulation should be implemented by a body independent of the government and its objective should be media independence, not media control,” Gutiérrez added.

We should stop paying taxes to the federal government. They are all so corrupt.

Sounds exactly like the type of ‘democracy’ that Mr. WEF Klaus and his western government puppets crave.

It really is
Zelensky is doing there what they want to do here. This is why they’re pushing the “hate speech isn’t free speech” narrative, that way they can declare anything they don’t like as “hate speech” and censor it.

In most ways, Ukraine and Russia are no different.

Washington needs to let go of its long-held myth that Ukraine is a blossoming American-style democracy.
quote:
The real Ukraine far more closely resembles the illiberal, pseudo-democratic systems that we have seen emerge in Russia, Hungary, Turkey, and other countries than it does the United States. It is reckless to treat Ukraine as a U.S. ally on strategic grounds, and it is morally offensive to do so on the basis of alleged democratic solidarity. The Biden administration should jettison this increasingly odious client state as soon as possible.

Even the US has restricted the press during wartime. Meh.

Didn't the USA block ("jam") the broadcasts of Tokyo Rose during World War Two? This is the same thing.
If the internet had existed 80 years ago I am sure Roosevelt would have blocked Nazi and Japanese websites and paid provocateur's.

I’m not a big supporter of Ukrainian post Soviet governments.
But the two main differences are stark!
1- Russians are fighting in Ukraine for the second time, and Ukrainians did not invade Russia.
2- Russia is actively working against legitimate American interests around the globe and Ukraine is not.
My hope is that like the Iran-Iraq War, both are kept busy for a long time. And when peace is finally made, Russian adventurism stops.

No, it’s not. Zelensky is giving his government unilateral powers to censor the media inside of Ukraine. This move is being criticized not only in Ukraine but across Europe.
Of course I’m not surprised you showed up to defend this, as this type of totalitarian censorship is exactly what you and your Commie pals have planned here.

And I say again, this is what America would have done during world war two if social media had existed and the Tokyo and Berlin governments were funding websites here or running radio and tv stations here.
In the run up to the Iraqi war didn't Ari Fleisher, then the WH Press Secretary say something about journalists and "People better watch what they say" or something like that?
BTW - We are yanking Russian stations off the air in the USA right now if they are retransmitting Moscow.
