He will be shocked to find out he was the leader of a false religion.

Or maybe he won’t.

Jesus Christ established His Church when He told Peter,"Thou art Peter (rock) and upon this rock, I will build my Church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it" (Matthew 16:18).

I really wish you Catholics would learn to study a Bible. Peter is petros (mas., small stone, building stone). The Rock the church is built on is PETRA (fem., foundation stone)! Jesus literally said, "you are a building stone, on the foundation of ME, I will build My church."

Any cursory word study would help you understand that. BTW, Jesus said "Call no man thy father on earth." There's no such thing as a POPE in the New Testament church.

You really should read I Timothy 4:1-3. There is nothing in the practices of the Catholic Church that is found in the New Testament Church of the Bible. The Catholic church did not even begin for 200 years after the Book of Revelation was written.

Have you guys been born again? Jesus says you have to be born again to see the kingdom of heaven....regardless of whether you are Catholic or Protestant.

Well I certainly hope you do not ask your friends to pray for you.

And I really wish you Protestants would study up on Greek and Aramaic. In Greek, "petros" is the masculine and "petra" is the feminine. Tell me why Matthew would choose a feminine name to describe a male adult? Also...Jesus would have been speaking Aramaic to Simon Peter in this instance. In Aramaic, there is only ONE word for rock: kephas.

Your ignorance and stupidity is on display for the world and God to see. You are a vile creature without an ounce of sincerity or charity in your heart as well as a dishonest and terrible troll.

Unlike JP II I think this apple may go to heaven!

Just because the Catholic Church says you’re a Saint doesn’t necessarily mean that God is willing to overlook someone in such a position of power covering up pedophilia and turning his back on innocent children!

Your mama.

At least I follow the Bible and not the vile RCC which is guilty of what you accused me of - times 10,000 and times ~2000 years.

Thou are Peter- you are Peter

And upon this rock I will build my church.- I am anointing you to be the one to start my church. You are the foundation. The beginning.

Where does a Pope come into the picture? I have always wondered how and why that tradition began. I just need scripture for proof. Not a scholars explanation without scriptural context.

When they decided there should be a king, as it is man's Achilles's heel to gravitate towards serfdom, and there are always people looking for ways to exploit it.

One can not “achieve salvation”

It is a gift, lest anyone should brag.

Catholics are WRONG

I tend to go with the line of thought that Peter's confession of Christ is the actual foundation/rock of the church.

In reality, it began with Leo I in the mid fifth century. He did many things to establish himself as the first pope in the modern sense of the papacy. Namely, solidifying the current sacramental economy of salvation.

Coincidentally, Rome was on it's last leg and fell in 476. The papacy would continue to strengthen until the office reached it's apex in the 11th century under Gregory VII where the the pope essentially became the strongest monarch in Europe.

The papacy experienced a decline in the 14-16th centuries due to the Great Papal Schism, the Conciliar Movement, and finally, the Protestant Reformation.

Saint Augustine left room for this interpretation too. Modern Roman Catholics have absolutely no place to stand without their narrow interpretation of this verse.

For without it, they couldn't have proclaimed papal infallibility in the...wait for it....
19th century

Message for Roman Catholics:

Our Faith has been around since Christ's Ministry because He founded it.

There is one faith, that is faith in Christ.
There is one baptism, that is baptism in the name of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

It does not matter that your "priests" cannot trace their lineage to the apostles. We all can by the way.

From Sam Harris:
If you wake up and pray over your pancakes so that they turn into the body of Elvis Presley your insane but if you wake up and pray over a cracker that it’s the body of Jesus your just a catholic..

Bible is a man written book just like religions are man made philosophies. I love religion though because it makes for good conversations amongst all

The Catholic Church doesn't teach that you can "achieve" salvation. It outright condemns work-based salvation. It teaches that salvation is a free gift from God alone, known as Grace.

Lots of Catholics don't know that either, to be honest.

Thanks for that information. I am presuming then that there is no scriptural basis for the tradition.
