Did you read the rest of my post? Opting out has nothing to do with career ending injuries, although that’s still a (very small) potential risk. It’s all about the combine.

college football as we know it wouldn't exist.
As we know it being the key phrase. The other 90+% of college sports exist with out all that because at the end of the day it’s an extra curricular activity designed for the kids. The players that opt out of bowls are the 1-5% or so that have potential pro careers. If you only watch because of them fine but they owe you nothing least of all playing in an exhibition game that exist solely as content for TV networks.

How does expansion make fewer games valuable?
It makes more games matter for sure, but less games matter as much. But it’s a good trade off with the new system.

If anything, it's going to make more games matter. Now there will be twenty teams fighting for spots 5-12 instead of eight teams fighting for 1-4. The losses may mean less so far as whether you get in or not, but every top 25 game is going to matter now because more top 25 teams will have a chance to win and get in.
Did you even read my post? I was arguing FOR the 12-team playoff, because, like you said, it makes more games matter, while still rewarding teams with great regular seasons by giving them a significant advantage in the playoffs. What I am against is expanding it even further to 16 or, God forbid, 32. That would destroy the regular season.
12 is perfect. Includes all P5 conferences, gives access to the G5, and makes more regular season games meaningful without making any meaningless by rewarding the top 4 with better chances to win the playoffs.

I assume the advantage you are referring to is the bye? To get the bye they have to win a conference champ game which teams like Ohio State who at 11-1 is in as a wild card without question in a 12 team format do not have to play. By the time you get to a final 8. Using this year as an example, Georgia and Michigan will have played the same # of games as Ohio St and Alabama.

Playoffs ruined bowls. Bowls are meaningless exhibitions to me. I would not even mind if players coming back we sat down for the game. I’d rather them sit and be healthy next year that get hurt against Purdue or before their combine/draft. It’s just to get more practices for the younger players now, IMO. Sort of a second spring training.

The problem isn't the opting out, it's the bowl games themselves. There are too many and there is too low of an incentive to play in them.
With NIL and the understanding that college players are getting paid, it should be a situation where the players get paid directly or something. If the sponsor can't afford that then the bowl game shouldn't exist if there are no playoff implications.

You think? Because of this (opting out), nil, transfer BS etc, my interest is waning to the point of probably not renewing my season tickets after 26 years. College FB is now a minor league to the NFL.

They've had two "opt-outs" -- one is because he's too injured to play, and another is in the transfer portal, so this is an incredibly valuable time for him to be meeting with other teams/coaches/schools, and getting enrollment in order. If you're going to make a point, please be informed about it.
Whoa speed racer, slow down. I know you have a major vested interest in these kids getting paid to change teams, but it's not that big of a deal. Some of you people on here act like these are your own kids playing. I'll make sure I spend all of my free time from now on "getting informed" on every kid in the portal so I can post here.

It sucks, but you can't force them to play.
I guess you can yank NIL money for not playing
NIL deals should include
You play in the bowl unless doctors says you can't play

It takes a simple google search, not hours of research. I didn't realize expecting people to be knowledgeable about things they state as fact was such a tall order.

Nothing I stated wasn't a fact, you just provided an excuse for it. I'm sure that in your fantasyland, players will continue playing in bowl/playoff games in the future to get a ring rather than protect "the bag".
I'll try to stay edukated though.

Why? What difference does it make to the people paying NIL if a guy skips an exhibition game and if the player is going pro he doesn’t need NIL anymore

This is what college football is. And honestly, them opting out is best for the program. It allows a lot of our guys for next year to get an extra month of practice and a game starting. Opting out may slightly hurt the quality of bowl games but it’s much better for the schools to start preparing for next season.

quote:not really. You still have to have a hell of a season to get in the playoffs.
Yes we have, a billion times, you just may not like or agree with it. But expanded playoffs cheapen the regular season. This is simply a fact.
And given the huge disparity in schedule strength between the major conferences and lesser conferences, I want a larger playoff.
Of course, not too big. For me, 8-10 teams is the right size. Auto bids to conference winners (thereby keeping the regular season extremely important), and at-large bids for the rest.
Makes perfect sense.

quote:the Combine is about measurables. That all occurs at the combine.
It’s all about the combine.
It has nothing to do with game performance in a bowl game, when a player already has tape for 12, 24, or 36 games.

It is fixed. Attitudes must adjust.

If I was coerced into playing in the final game if my career as opposed to prepping for my NFL shot, I'm sure I could motivate the coach to ask me to sit this one out.
Or I could confess to something I did during my recruitment that could cost me my eligibility and possibly problems for the school.
Further what was your opinion last year when BK left ND high and dry during a playoff run?
Should he have been forced to stay?

We should do the study but I would almost guarantee that most of these kids going back to their home environments is more dangerous than school, practice and a game.
Could you be more racist
Could you?
Are you assuming this is more true for some then others?
