was busy getting coaches and recruiting so we'd have a fricking team. Get a clue.
These players are busy getting ready for the combine and a shot at the NFL, their next job.
They are doing the same thing their coach did last year.

Agree the opting out BS sucks but it's a 'no' to the declining bowl bids. I tune it to watch the LSU Tigers football team, not necessarily individual players. I will enjoy this game and pull just as hard for the team with all backup DL in the game. Even as crappy as last year's bowl game was, I enjoyed it anyways because it was LSU football. Not gonna lie, I enjoy wins a whole lot more but love watching LSU football nonetheless.

the exception that proves the rule.
How many players over the past 10 years have played in bowl games? Let's say 40 players get on the field for each team. 40-ish bowls, so that's 80 teams = 3200 players.
Each year.
So over the past decade, there have been 32,000 players that play in bowl games, and 2 (that you mention, perhaps there are more, but very, very, very few) have had career-impacting injuries.
The players are at more risk of being seriously injured in the bus ride to the stadium.
How many of those 32,000 were injured on the bus ride to the stadium?
I bet those 2 wish they had opted out

How many would play with no fans? No fans = no money.

I’m not too concerned. Jones and Guillory both have plenty of experience and I’m excited to see more of Zavier Carter. I guess one of Tygee Hill, Bryce Langston, or Fitzgerald West will
Zavier carter is like 200 pounds.

Could there be a bowl game specific NIL tied to a LLoyd’s of London insurance policy.
I mean, the players are taking a risk, maybe this would alleviate some concerns.

All NCAA schools should require an agreement that players must participate in bowls as a requirement to get a scholarship.

I suppose your money is on it.

That'll work just about as well as NIL. The college game is becoming a cesspool.

just decline bowl bids.
Soft
If you're not in the playoffs, who cares. The entire bowl system rewards to many losers. Everybody gets a trophy. And I agree with guys protecting their futures.
Every year, fat arse fans complain about kids doing what best for them. Get over it.

Is it possible to add a clause if they get NIL? In the pros if you can stand up you play. College kids can't have it both ways. This is just my opinion.

Let's be honest the bowl games have no meaning anymore. If you not in Final 4 I wouldn't risk it. It's up to the player to decide.
Posted on 12/24/22 at 3:03 pm to DaveyJones12
that's a terrible example. how about if you get hurt the first game of the season and lose 10% of your brain. what's the difference. 1st or last game .

It’s probably more likely to die while waiting for your 2 week notice to expire than to get a career ending injury in a bowl game. Literally never happens
It doesn’t have to be career ending to frick up your draft position and cost you a few million on your first contract. Just ask Matt Corral. Do you think every player with a shot at the draft this year didn’t see that and hasn’t thought about it?

Strange comparison, I know, but imagine someone with a music scholarship who just says “meh, I’ve got what I want, I am opting out of the year-end recital…”. I mean, a scholarship is a contract that includes representing your program and university. You know, it expects you to participate. Now, if you are off to the NFL combine and you have “graduated football” I guess it is a free country - can’t make someone do something. I’d just revoke the scholly and privileges immediately. Thanks for coming yo

As someone who went to school on a music scholarship, unless you are a performance major who’s learned all they can and already has pro gigs lined up, you have to get that degree to help you in your career. You see guys like that at some top music schools and conservatories like North Texas and Berkeley leave early and don’t need that piece of paper, but not so much at LSU.
What you say about pulling scholarships and privileges is all fine and good for kids leaving in the portal, especially if you know tampering is involved. That basically happened with Deion Smith last off-season. But you absolutely can’t afford to do that to players who stayed with you until leaving for the draft. What kind of message would that send to future recruits. That would be a negative recruiting bonanza, so no program is ever going to go there.
