This thread has me thinking. So, I've been dealing with pinholes in my water pipes in the attic. Just a little water misting through a pinhole. Easy fix and rarely do damage, but definitely annoying as hell. I chalked it up to bad luck. Well, last night while the wife was moving the elf, she thought the heard something in the attic and woke me up. Of course, I didn't hear anything. I'm thinking I need to get some traps. They have been clearing a field to build a road nearby (back of the neighborhood).

Never heard it called this before…”moving the elf” indeed.

Cats
They hunt for the fun of it, Natural Born Killers.

A24 rat and mouse trap. Basically you bait them, it has a sensor, when triggered it launches a bolt that kills instantly.

this. It’s a cat not a prisoner.
Yep, inside cats start to go stir crazy if you don't keep them entertained. When mine get that crazy look in their eyes and attack random stuff in the house I just boot them outside. Lol.
They are constantly in and out. Can be a bit of a pain, but I don't have any pests for sure.

I still have birds, squirrels, and rabbits.... but they are definitely kept in check.
No mice whatsoever though.
I think the most impressive thing they have caught was a hummingbird.

Protecta EVO Express Bait Stations placed outside around house loaded with First Strike Soft Bait.

I'm with you, brother. Been fighting mice in my attic for a while now.
I check traps once or twice a week and bait them when they are empty. I've caught a good bit so far, but the bayou behind my house seems to have an endless supply of them. It's annoying as frick.

I don't think I've ever seen a rat or mouse in person. I'd really have to think about it, and certainly never anywhere I lived.

had mice running around my shop in broad daylight a week ago. I set out traps all around the shop and went back today for the 1st time since. All the stinking traps are missing.
your rodents have a human helper. you need to come to grips with that.
I recommend a healthy cat.
male. not fixed. under 3 years age.
you will see him torture them. you will find a cemetery of feet and bones your cat didn't eat.
less than a week. no mice.
the survivors will figure it out.

i use glue traps with a single nugget of dog food in the middle. not for "humane" reason but, because they work. And the dog lets me know when one gets caught because they squeal.

Growing up as a child we would get them once a year. It was every time the cane fields were cut. It took about 20:years for my dad to find out where they were getting in. There always were two. They seem to travel in pairs.

They won't be stirring Saturday night.

Have been in my house 21 years. This is the first time I've had a mouse issue.

When I was a kid, we heard some scampering in the attic early one winter morning. My mom was pretty upset that there was a mouse or rat up there.
Minutes later, my brother and I walked outside, and sitting on our porch was the biggest tom cat I ever saw. Huge, muscle bound Brock Lesnar of a cat. We had never set eyes on him before and he had no collar, but was very bold and friendly. He stuck around our house that day, so we gave him a little to eat and drink.
That evening, my brother said "Let's put him in the attic. He'll take out whatever is up there." So we put him up there that night.
Next morning, we let him out of the attic. He was happy as a clam. We let him out in the yard. He stuck around while we were outside, but later that day, he was gone.
After that night, we heard no more scampering in the attic, we found a few corpses, but that cat never returned. Maybe the cat was actually like a shoemaker elf or something.

Hmm, I may try that.
I use peanut butter and that usually works pretty well. Never heard of dog food, but I'm down to try it though.

They are all over my work but we have a cane field within spitting distance so I’m not shocked.

We used to have a cat who was mostly outdoor, but let her inside at night if she wanted to sleep with us. Great hunter though. The new house we bought was by some fields and we had a bad mice problem for a little. Remember they were all in our pantry one day and my dad put our cat in there for about 30 minutes, and when we came back, she had 6 of them laying at the door. Cats are awesome
