WASHINGTON (AP) — Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm was set to announce a “major scientific breakthrough” Tuesday in the decades-long quest to harness fusion, the energy that powers the sun and stars.
Researchers at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California for the first time produced more energy in a fusion reaction than was used to ignite it, something called net energy gain, according to one government official and one scientist familiar with the research. Both spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the breakthrough ahead of the announcement.

How much more?

They call that "perpetual motion", it doesn't exist

Producing the energy and capturing it are two different things. Still several decades away, so the biden admin will have to forgive me if i ignore this “breakthrough”

Let me sum this up for you, mick

Woohoo, they must have gotten the reactor to run for at least 20 seconds.
And don't be fooled about producing more than it consumes. That makes it sound like it can be used to produce electricity now. When in reality they are still far far away from any commercial application of fusion.
Usually they don't even accoount for all the energy that it took to get "ignition"! Instead only compare the output versus the fuel used in the reactor.
Good news just don't hold your breath.
