You think we have no other leverage?
If we did he would be on the same plane heading back you fricking moron. It’s also now coming out that it was the Saudis who orchestrated this deal, only after the US agreed to drop their lawsuit against them.
Also, change your team affiliation back to A&M so no one thinks you’re associated with Louisiana in any way.

Intermediaries in these kinds of deals are normal.

Please tell me how high level negotiations work. I’m looking forward to the fricking Blinn graduate explaining it to us all.

I can tell you right now that Brittney fricking Griner was in no way the linchpin that would bring Whelan home. The fact that you would think that is just astounding.
She's a minor celebrity who was accused of bringing in a single vape pen cartridge. He's former US military who is accused of being a god damned spy. The gulf between the seriousness of the charges is bigger than the Grand Canyon.
Again, saying we have no leverage is asinine. There are plenty of things Russia might want that could get him home. That doesn't mean we are currently willing to give whatever that is up yet nor does it mean we won't eventually get him back. Negotiations are obviously ongoing. You can't just say frick you give me everything I want b/c then you'll get nothing.
The Biden admin already brought back former marine Trevor Reed earlier this year so for y'all to act like they are purposely ignoring Whelan to make conservatives mad is idiotic.

What's the full story on that dude anyway? I don't think I've ever heard anything about him other than "marine."
He was born in Canada and has US, Irish and British citizenships. He was discharged from the marines back in 2008 for bad conduct. He was arrested in Russia with like $80k in cash. I'm guessing he got caught doing something he wasn't supposed to be doing, but doubt we will ever know the truth.

Almost like we shouldn’t have wasted Russia’s most valuable asset under US control on some druggie.

The only thing that’s more idiotic than this trade deal is you trying to justify it and argue that actually the Biden administration is now in a better negotiating position because of it

They had a deal in place to get them both out this summer. Either Biden got played and made a deal almost as bad as Obama exchanging 5 terrorists for a deserter or it was an intentionally political decision.

I have not been this mad about something in a long time
Since it is something that doesn't really affect me, it shouldn't bother me, but it honestly does. Greatly so.
Just basically a spitting image of what our country is. This is so low on the totem pole of things that are important, yet people will regard Griner as a hero and praise Retard Joe as so sort of negotiating genius, not even including the fact that a murdering arms dealer is released, an innocent Marine is still in jail, and thousands of fricking Americans are still in jail for the same fricking thing Griner did.
Said a bunch the past several months, this country is fricking gone. It's what happens when you vote for cock suckers like Diaper Joe and continue to make this country worse by voting blue. This is has been a completely disastrous, embarrassing day for this country.
The 3 downvotes are also why this country is the way it is too. Plain stupidity.

The UAE and Saudi Arabia mediated the deal and Biden recently gave MBS legal immunity.

You better believe Griner will come back here and double down on the critical race/identity politics/social justice narrative. She'll go on The View and Jimmy Kimmel to discuss how white supremacy is such a grave threat here.

The U.S. explored a wide range of proposals to try to resolve both the Griner and Whelan cases, a senior administration official said.
But in recent weeks, it became clear that the swap would entail either bringing Griner back alone or no one at all

He held the rank of staff sergeant with Marine Air Control Group 38 working as an administrative clerk and administrative chief, and he was part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. After a court-martial conviction in January 2008 on multiple counts "related to larceny", he was sentenced to 60 days restriction, reduction to pay grade E-4, and a bad conduct discharge. The specific charges against him included "attempted larceny, three specifications of dereliction of duty, making a false official statement, wrongfully using another’s social security number, and ten specifications of making and uttering checks without having sufficient funds in his account for payment.

Agreed. I never personally served, but have lots of family that have and some who are still serving. So, I have the utmost respect for those who volunteer their lives to serve like the marine who The administration couldn't give less of a shite about.
Ask your serving family members what they think of a Marine that got kicked out for attempted theft of $10k, multiple counts of dereliction of duty and various other charges.
The Marine with a good record (Reed) was traded for back in April.
