Tore labrum 9 years ago. Whenever you start PT it is extremely painful just back to normal ROM and strength. If done properly, after 4-5 months post-op should feel back to normal for most part. Getting that ROM back was the biggest pain in arse though

Re the sling, don't try & drive with it on as La. law makes you liable for any accident, regardless of the accident facts if there is an accident while driving. Any arm, a boot as well.

My mother has had both shoulders replaced. Even normal every day movements were painful. We bought a foam wedge for the bed to help out at night as she was advised to sleep upright. Getting a bidet was very helpful also.

Was this an injury or a chronic condition?

I’m so glad this was on page 1. I’m typing this right now at 12:45am because I can’t sleep. Torn rotator cuff surgery exactly 31 days ago. It’s been a bitch. I have nothing to offer other than to let you know that it’s obviously a very slow recovery. I feel like I’m making progress but I MAY get 4-5 hours of sleep per night. I’ll be watching this thread for some info about when the pain, even minor, eventually stops altogether. Good luck.

Lets say you had a partially torn labrum and pec, but was about 80% from the initial injury… would you still have the surgery?
In my case, They do not know if they are able to fix the partial tear around the pec, but he is able to repair the labrum. I’ve been having 2nd thoughts of if i really need it. Worst pain in back part of shoulder with certain movements. A large amount of arthritis in that shoulder as well

Had bancart (sp?) repair on right shoulder. 6-8 weeks
Had distil tendon repair (had ruptured biceps tendon)
6-8 weeks little mobility 6 months before released to no restrictions.

Damn that must have been a helluva accident or incident.

I had SLAP repair surgery last yr and they also shaved down my clavicle.
Dr. Chip Bankston who may be my favorite doc ever. Dude was fantastic.
Prepare for a long recovery.
I had 30 something PT visits afterwards and Im just getting my strength back to where it was before surgery.
A week after surgery I discovered the bidet and it was a game changer getting a pressure washed bunghole rather than trying to wipe my arse left handed.
I also had one of those things that circulates freezing cold water and it straps to your shoulder. That was helpful too.

Yeah, you're in for a year of pain & aggravation. Don't shortchange yourself on the PT. Do it all. Took me over a year to get back to any semblance of normal. I was around 50 yrs old when I went thru it.

I had 2 rotator cuff surgeries 3 months apart. Use the recliner and possibly a wedge pillow for the bed. I bought the bands and weights that you will use in therapy and used them at the house. I did the exercises twice a day even when i did not have therapy. It sucks but if you dont you will lose your range of motion. One buddy did not do his therapy at home and cannot even reach his wallet in his back pocket. I got 95% of my motion back.

Chip did both of my surgeries and did a fantastic job. Good people. My 15 tore his labrum and we are in consultation with him now on what to do.

Sleep is impossible. Just don't pound the pain meds during the day, only take them at night to help sleep. It will hurt for a while. But when you can do your therapy to get the blood flowing back in that area.

Torn rotator cuff surgery, 31 days later, I was well past any significant pain. Had started PT by the 3rd week & my range of motion had already started to improve. But it took a full 4-5 mths post surgery. to be considered back to normal. There are some PT acts that can be down at home, just no "lifting" every day, as those muscles need time to rest. Bur ROM can be done every day. I ended up stripping down my sling to where it was basically holding up my arm, not strapped to my side. Sleep was a bitch, no real way to get around it.

Take your pain meds before heading to physical therapy. Don't wait until afterwards. Also get some freezable ice shoulder wraps. It'll be a year for a full recovery. Don't shirk the PT. You dont want a frozen shoulder that will result in sedated manipulation to break up the scar tissue.

Man, so many blown up shoulders around here.
What have you guys been doing so I know what to avoid?

In one year you’ll be good as new.

Had the SLAP surgery twice, not going to lie it sucked. Do not skimp on PT and stay with it. Probably took a year to get full strength back but I still feel it every day
