Are these actually capable? Wanting to plant some plots on the rear of my property that would be hard to get to with a tractor. I can get in there with my sxs. Plots would be on ground never prepped before. Are they enough to handle the job?

Not capable. Buy a sprayer and use chemicals to control succession of woody encroachment. That’s your best bet.

Have one that works, just go SLOW and it’ll chop. Mine is about 300 lbs and really needs a liquid cooled motor but have used a 400 big bear back in the day until the oil light came on.

I used one behind an ATV for years. What a back breaker, I'm sure behind a sxs would be much better

Agreed.

You could get one of those disks, and could get by...but itll be tough. A good spraying program can be just as effective...you just have to be consistent/relentless and use the correct chemicals.

Whitetail Habitat Solutions (Jeff Sturgis) on YouTube has some good resources on weed competition management.

We use one every year after we bush hog, takes multiple passes but it works well for us. We're are not doing acre + plots either...

You can see what's been bush hogged vs disked.

You should be just fine with a SxS. I pull this one behind a Honda 450 Foreman and you can see the job it does. It weighs 300# and I add a couple batteries to it to get it to dig.

We used to use one at an old lease close to Simpson/Slagle (before Ft. Polk took it) and it worked fine. We would spray a week or two before discing and add 100-150lbs to the disc. This and multiple slow passes worked great.
