Lifelong Florida guy here... 66 years old.
Been hunting Deer, Hogs whatever for many years.
Hunting Lease member here in the Big Bend of Florida.
I'd like to kill a 130 or so once in my life...just one.
If I load up the truck next season and head to Mississippi and slide into one of them big National Forests ..what are my chances.
I know them 130's don't grow on trees and ain't easy but I' m a solid hunter with years of experience and retired.
It's a once or twice in a lifetime thing for me.
A guy on here sent me tons of information awhile back about hunting there but the quota thing was like 2 hunters per year.

Live and hunt in mississippi. Your chances are about 2% of doing what you want.
They go up to about 60% if you try it in western kentucky

I've hunted on Kitsachie in La. all my life. I'm not a great hunter, but the seasons I hunted I usually killed something. I don't use corn or anything, just figure out there movements and ambush. Hunting the National forest is tough because of competition a1nd its tougher as the season progresses because the hunters force the deer into abnormal patterns. I'd guess your chances are close to nil. I killed a 145 ten point, but it took a lot of work figuring him out.

Just curious but why only limit yourself to Mississippi? If you’re retired load up and head to Kansas, nebraska, Illinois, Oklahoma etc.
Mississippi has big deer and you can definitely get one if you put the time in.

It can be done in MS. But if I’m putting that much effort and travel in, im going to the Midwest. Anywhere from Kentucky to Iowa. Public land has WAY more deer up there

I’d say pretty slim to none and at 66 you won’t live long enough.
Got a buddy that has a lease in Mississippi and he’s a sure enough deer killer and killing a 130-150 is hard and it’s not just gonna happen and I’m talking about hunting 20-40 days a year.
Go to Missouri, Kentucky or any Midwest state that doesn’t require a
Draw to do what your wanting.

I suggest public land in KY

Hunt South Georgia. Seriously plenty of really good deer. Also if you can find hunting spots in Suburban Atlanta more than likely you’ll have 130 and much higher on camera.

If I was dead set on getting a 130+ I would head to the midwest or to Texas.
If I was set on doing it on public land I would definitely go the midwest route.
If I had some money to spend on it I would do a Texas hunt. You can do low fence fair chase several places in Texas for less than you think with a chance to kill one that size. Just takes some digging around.

You need to understand what states have drawings for deer tags in the midwest, you need to apply to most of those states and hope you get pulled.
