Guitar amp attenuators

I’ve been looking for some solutions to quiet my tube amp in the house and came across attenuators. I’m starting to do some research but was just wondering if anyone uses them and what brand/models you like.
If not, is there any other options out there for quieting your amp?

They work well and are available at a variety of price points. Look for one with a reactive load and enough dissipation to handle the wattage you’re gonna out through it. Look for RMS rating as this will show you how much it can dissipate at a steady rate and not just short peaks.
It will change the sound of your amp though so be aware that some of the “wide open” sound you hear is actually from the speakers and not just from the amp

If your amp has an effects loop, a JHS Little Black Amp Box does the job pretty well.

Sweet water has the BUGERA PS1 on sale for 50 bucks. A lot of people say it’s great for the price

I use the Weber Mini Mass for my Marshall 20Watt Heads. Works really well and reasonably priced at $186. Weber mini mass

For the price of some of those things, you could literally buy a smaller amp.

I just bought this. Been cranking the clean channel on my Twin to 10. Wish my amps speaker wires extended a little further another few inches but I am able to plug in the Bugera unit having it sit on the top of my amp as close as possible to the speaker wires.
It’s been fun using it though.

So I got the Bugera ps1 in and it looks like I will return it. My egnater rebel already was lacking on treble. The reviews of the Bugera was that it cuts some of the treble out of your amp, so I doesn’t sound the greatest.
I will do better research on the next attempt.
Side question, if my amp eq doesn’t sound the best, will a eq pedal help that much or not too much?

My Twin has plenty of high end so I did not notice this. I have p90s and have the treble set at 5-6. Cuts through plenty for me. The Bugera unit is probably on sale for $50 for a reason. Others run up to $500 so I’m sure the components used in this unit are not the best.

I haven’t used an EQ pedal in a very long time so I’ll have to let someone else take this. I’m curious about the API TranZformer EQ/Boost pedal though. A bit on the expensive side but I like API’s products.

Considering Bugera has a reputation for poor QC and subsequent reliability issues, NO WAY I would trust any device they make to attenuate a high dollar and/or high value amplifier. Just an observation. YMMV

I am returning the Bugera attenuator now. Thanks for the heads up.
