Breaking: Texas State football set to hire G.J. Kinne. Kinne, a Texas native who played at Tulsa, is 10-1 in his first season in charge at UIW.

Solid hire. Young energetic and has a wild arse offense.

Also very well respected with HS coaches and they need it after what Spavital did.

what did Spavital do?

I heard smoke but I don't know what it was about. I did see him on some list of college coach a-holes versus college coach nice guys, and he was listed as an a-hole

Same here. Played there also. Thought it was a good fit. Nice hire for the Bobcats.

Yep, maybe sooner if he turns them around fast. Spavital was a strange hire, there’s no reason that program can’t have the same kind of success that UTSA has had.

He told all the High School coaches dont bother because he was just going to do the portal. His last two years he was 90% portal. 2020 I believe he didnt sign one HS kid. Burned a ton of bridges with TX HS coaches.

I think that was a huge reason for Kinne. His dad is a legend, and he has a great reputation around the state.

I don’t know if Spavital burned any bridges off the field, but Texas State has been bad all 4 of his seasons as coach.

Yep, it has great potential. They had an old hag for a President that didn't care about sports, and she retired in May. They now have a new President and AD, and the President is night and day different. He worked with Joe Castiglione at OU and knows the importance of what athletics can do.

I think Alexis Texas went there. Maybe they could work something out with NIL deals. I doesn't state exactly what the benefits that you can trade your name, image, and likeness.

He will do a great job in San Marcos. The Texas State system has over 87000 students. That job has a ton of potential.

Former Gilmer Buckeye. Curious to see where Traylor goes if he keeps UTSA winning like they are.

His dad is not a legend. He got shot by a disgruntled parent point blank range in his office and miraculously survived.

GJ was an unreal high school quarterback and carried his dad.

Dad was not well liked by other coaches for antics and some of them were in really poor taste.

Dad was not about making friends back in those days.

Incredible. Remember when he was QB at Gilmer after I believe his dad was shot as a coach at Canyon.

Also was on the cover of Dave Campbell Texas football mag

Love football but it's been hard to go to any Texas State games for the past 4 years and we live 15 minutes from the stadium. . It was horrible! They finally got rid of the President and AD which were also horrible! Now maybe we can see some good football. And you're right if UTSA can do it, so can TSU.
