Then that over Trump's tax returns. What is the thought process here? We are going to take the returns from the very people whose job it is to prosecute tax crimes to find crimes on our own.
Wonder if they would be comfortable just handing their medical records to politicians so they could find issues doctors couldnt....

I’m really hoping this opens the door to all politicians tax returns being examined . However I know its only going to be “rules for me , but not for thee” .

I mean, he’s not even the current President. Thus there’s only one motivation to continue down this path so vigorously as they’ve done: to seek ammo with which to affect a/the future election, i.e. blatant election interference. In the meantime though, precedent is set - Obama and Biden are fair game and should be the targets of exact same actions once the Republican majority is in place.

A billionaire not paying taxes is the norm, actually. Trump said it in the Hillary debate. Basically, “ I use the rigged tax code, like you and all your friends “. These people aren’t W2 employees…. Shocker, I know. Most just use write-offs that span year, live of stock options and capital gains, shifting profit into tax shelters and new capital investments. Anyone can see this, but Dems only want the next scalp, and Trump has been an incredible dodger of their persistent game

They have! If you think they haven’t had his tax returns for years the you’re naive. There may be a few inaccuracies in them that they have found so they have continued to push this so they can act like he did something terrible. It will be no big deal!

The IRS already has his tax returns. They’re the only ones that need his tax returns.

He’s been audited plenty enough times to have discovered any alleged improprieties, and as we all know to this point……nothing shaking in that department. I guess they just think that’s too complicated a concept for us out here to comprehend. Lol

On a sliding scale, I'm way less concerned about a politician who left DC with less net worth than the thousands that leave with a net worth a hundred times what it was going in on a $180k / year salary.

This isn’t how it works. Also, you don’t get to just investigate someone in hopes of finding something. Finally, if he is doing anything the code disallows, the IRS is the entity that would find that…the IRS has his returns.
