Amex platinum card members can still access SkyClub, it appears.

Might as well rebrand the Delta Centurion Lounge. Only reasonable method is Amex Platinum now.

Bingo. Delta is a credit card company that happens to fly planes at this point

The last time I looked, Amex Platinum authorized users got access to Delta and Centurion clubs. Any word if that is going to change? I was only about $62k short on the required $75k spend for free guest. $175/yr to get my family into lounges would pay for itself after one or two trips.

Yep, entry requirements haven't changed for Amex Platinum and Amex Delta Reserve cardholders. From the looks of it, that probably won't change as Amex and Delta are joined at the hip.

I hit the $75k threshold already but I did add my wife and parents for when they aren't flying with me. One thing to note about adding family members is, you can't add another cardholder under the age of 13, so if your kids are younger you'll still be stuck paying a fee.

Do you guys mostly visit the airline lounges/clubs during long layovers? Or do you tend to arrive at departure airports early to visit the lounges?

We live about 10 minutes from BOI and are 15 minutes from PHX and tend to get to both airports at the last minute. BOI doesn't have any lounges or clubs but PHX has several. We try to fly nonstop anytime we can, so we don't have too many flights with layovers. I like the idea of the lounges or clubs, but don't see too many occasions in which we'd have the opportunity to visit.

Being based in AUS and loyal to DL/UA means I have a decent number of layovers. With most of my travel being for work, the team will usually head to the airport together and all try and fly out around the same time, but some of us have longer waits in the airport than others.

For instance, my last project was in Denver and the majority of my team was Dallas based. They would have a 4:40p flight and mine was at 5:35p, which meant no matter what I was going to have at least an hour to kill. I'm certainly not going out of my way to get to the airport early though.

I travel a good amount from work and they tend to be 1-2 day turnarounds. Often I'm going straight from a client office to the airport and have 2-3 hrs to kill. Having lounge access to be able to have space to work and relax is huge. There are very few out there that are worth going out of your way for though.

I hope not. I just got the platinum as I've traveling a little more for work, so I can get into the lounges at airports. Not enough to be a diamond or platinum medallion, but enough to make that $700 year fee worth it.

I've flown 87 flights so far this year. My Platinum AF has paid for itself more times than I can count

It's $175 for 1-3 AU's. So adding her was the same price as adding her and my parents

Regarding the $75k minimum spend, the peeps working the doors at the various clubs have access to seeing how much you spend on your platinum card?

They can't see what you spend, rather the $75k spend threshold "unlocks" guest privileges. They're already scanning your card, so it's basically letting them know whether they can admit your guests for free.

The hourly employees at the airport probably don't even know what the threshold is. The $75k spend only applies to Centurion Lounges though, not SkyClubs

FYI before the pandemic AUS issued an RFP for a non-airline lounge. Escape Lounges (Amex Plat benefit, I think they are now called Amex Centurion Studio) won the bid. Then a loser bid filed a bid protest over minority representation which was suspect at best. Then the whole RFP got pulled in I think 2021 so AUS got nothing

Given all of the travel "influencers" with a Platinum that would come through AUS I don't see that as a huge loss as the lounge would have been absolutely overrun.

If I'm on DL I'll pop into the SkyClub, otherwise, I live close enough that I'm usually going through security 20 minutes before boarding anyway.

Glad to see the changes the clubs are overrun with people gorging themselves on free food and snacks. I have found the SkyClub invaluable when when you need a flight change or straighten out a cancelled flight. I always have to fly through a hub and connect because of where I live so it can be nicer to be in a SkyClub.
