This year again shows that 12 teams is a joke.

LSU, Clemson, Oregon, OSU, etc have no business in any championship playoffs after getting embarrassed on Saturday.

You are missing the entire point. There is only like 6 teams that have a shot every year. The rest of the sport is pointless. Going to 12 teams creates so many more meaningful games. It allows schools outside of Bama/ UGA/ Mich / Ohio St/ Oklahoma and Clemson being the only schools that ever play in it.

agreed.

at most, it should be 6. Power 5 champions and one at large

top 2 get a bye

other 4 play into the semis (with higher seeded teams for the play in getting the game at their home stadium)

With Sofi stadium in play the rose bowl's days are numbered
Plus you have a nice new stadium in vegas as well

They need to either get on board or college football is going to leave them in the dust

agree. some years we've had an argument between the 2nd and third place teams in the bcs system. they implemented a 4 team playoff to make sure no one who had an argument for being one of the top two deserving teams got left out.

now the team who ends up 5th is crying about not getting in when they would've never been considered one of the top two teams at the end of the year.

2022 is a great example of needing a 4 team playoff if tcu wins out at 13-0. the 4th team, whether it be sc or osu, are really only lucky to be there.

with a 12 team playoff, we're gonna have 8 - 10 teams who have no business being there in the first place. it just waters down the regular season. i'm sure there will be a lot of crying over the 13th ranked team getting left out.

the least they can do is get rid of conf championship games if they're gonna have a 12 team playoff. winning a conf would just be an aggregate conf record and tie breakers like it used to be.

Nah,

Conference championships should mean something, that's why the 12 team works so well. Top 4 conference champs get a bye. You get rewarded for winning your conference but it doesn't exclude teams who don't win their conference but still have good seasons.

It also helps recruiting as more teams can claim they have a shot at the title instead of the 6 or so teams we have right now.

Edit: if you want to keep it at 4 let’s move to 4 mega conferences and the winner of each conference gets in the playoff. I want objective standards to crown the champ not a few guys in a room determining who gets a shot at the title.

The joke is meaningless bowl games. Every other division of cfb has had 16 team playoffs for years.

You could make the argument that the 4 team playoff is also a joke. Semi finals are seldom competitive.

It was the SEC pushing 12 teams. I am not sure why you think it is a joke, it is the best scenario for SEC outside of four team playoff. The only way we were going to have more than two teams was to go to 12 team playoff. The eight team model was going to have five power five conference champions and a group of five conference champion leaving only two at large bids.

If you mean from a competitive standpoint I agree, but then the four team playoff is a joke, too. There are consistently blowouts in the semi-finals. Michigan and GA have separated themselves this year, so I am sure it will happen again.

I totally disagree. This year is a perfect example of why there SHOULD be 12 teams, in my opinion.

Let's say Michigan, UGA, USC and TCU end up getting in. If everything holds serve those would be the 4 most "deserving" teams to get in. Don't think there is much debate there.

Now.. I am of the opinion that TCU and USC aren't even really that close to being one of the four best teams in the country. That leaves maybe two less than desirable semi final match ups.

Change that number to 12, and we will get to watch TCU and USC have to play it out on the field against some of those teams I feel are better. That would be awesome to watch.

Is there usually only 2-3 teams who seem far and away the better team each year? Sure. But at least now, by the time we get to the semi finals we are sitting with pretty damn close to the four best. And the (maybe) rare upset year where we see an unlikely team make a run will be great to watch, and great for CFB.

No, after 2 years it will showcase how much of doormats these other programs that people try to compare to SEC caliber teams are.

Although the SEC wins the natty every year, we are still led to believe that other schools can compete, when that’s clearly not the case. When 3-4 SEC teams run the tournament and end up with an SEC championship final over and over it ends all discussion
