Elk hunting in snow with low Temps. Best boots?

Going to Craig, Co in 2 weeks. Highs in the 20's and lows in the negative. Wanting to get a good waterproof warm boot. Don't want my feet to freeze while elk hunting and don't want them to burn up hunting here in Louisiana
I was thinking a rocky 600g hiking boot that's waterproof.
Add some wool socks for good measure.
What say the OB?

Rubber boots for Louisiana. Crispi’s with insulation for elk.

Get electric insoles or socks. I use the foot warmers but they don't last long.
Also, get high lace up boots or wear gaiters to keep snow out the boots or from running under ur pants

Donner Boots out of Spokane is the hands down best boot made for this type of hunting.

Schees bear beartooth uninsulated, and use boot blankets while glassing.
Make damn sure you have a good layering system put together. You will be surprised how much you can sweat hiking in single digit Temps. I dont like insulated boots because of that. If you keep your core temperature well managed and your feet dry, you won't have cold feet.

100% agree. In my defense I just got invited. Got a buddy who has a buddy that owns a section. Apparently he has tags. Who knows though. This is the most half arse thrown together hunt I've been own. At least I'll be in the rockies in a primitive cabin. No water or electricity. Sounds like a disaster of a hunt that's gonna make for one hell of a story though.

If you’re going to be putting any miles in them whatever you get u need to get asap and try to start breaking them in.
Darn tough merino wool socks are legit I wore some a few weeks ago with a liner sock and lacrosse burlys in 16-22deg mornings for some all days sits. At 30$ a pair I can say they are worth every penny.

Craig area gets damn cold this time of year. I would say depends on method of the hunt. Assuming private land? Probably some riding around and stalk and pursue. Sorels for warmth but not so much support. I’ve hunted in them for years. Decent for hiking and walking.
Danners were my go to for best hiking and all day wear. What do you have now? Good outer pant or wool with good gaiters will do you fine. The more you move the warmer you will be. Good luck. The elk should be down lower and on BLM land too.

Agree with Darn Tough. Even sweaty they stay warm. Also Lacrosse makes fine boots too.

I use Danner Pronghorn boots with darn tough socks and wear kuiu gaiters over my boots in heavy snow.

I wear an insulated Muck boot with wool socks. The insulation is some kind of fleece hybrid and it’s excellent.

I’d make sure you can trust your crew before you make the trip. Things can get Western in a hurry. Do y’all have chains for the truck? Multiple heaters for the cabin? Is the vehicle you’re taking ready for severe winter weather? What will you drink when your water freezes up?
