Is holocaust denying not a big deal to FIFA? Meanwhile Russia is banned? I really hope we destroy true evil on Tuesday.

Don’t conflate citizens with their govt/regime.
Russian soccer players didn’t invade Ukraine.
Iranian soccer players don’t support repressive regime.
Our players in 02 didn’t invade Iraq.

Their players are literally protesting their government this tournament.

That’s like protesting the nazis and still wearing the uniform.

Would be hard since we didn’t invade Iraq until ‘03, but point taken.

Then go tell them that you don't approve of their protest.

So what should they do? Quit and have no one talk about this?

Did playing for the US mean supporting the War in Iraq, lying about WMDs, or manufacturing regime change in South America?

This. I have nothing against their players. In fact, I admire them because they or their families could easily get fricked over once the tourney is over

Not sure any country is off limits for Infantino. Hell he said he'd be open to letting North Korea host a world cup or associated events.

The only two questions FIFA has on pretty much any issue is:
1) How much is this going to cost us? and
2) How much money can we make off of this?
If they had let Russia compete, the boycott from the rest of the world would have left them with about four teams and no money. But FIFA generally sees no problem with oppressive dictatorships competing and doesn’t want to start down the slippery slope of being the morality police. Apparently some oppressive dictatorships have money too!

I mean, I understand that every country with any iota of power has its skeletons in the closet, but lets be real here, FIFA had no choice but to ban Russia considering Ukraine and Russia were in the middle of UEFA playoffs at the time and Ukraine couldn't field a team because their country was getting invaded.

Yeah, I guess the short answer to the OP’s question is that Iran hasn’t invaded anyone lately.

If I didn't care that I only get to watch the USMNT in a World Cup so many times in my life, I'd hope Infantino was stupid enough to follow through on such an empty promise only to see every NATO country and others boycott the tournament.
