Work trip in Dubai, arrived a few days ago and here until next week. I have a few options for weekend such as beach clubs, Global Village, the man made islands.
Any other good recs? I will most likely be solo. Looking forward to sleeping in on Saturday more than anything.
I don’t expect to make an attempt at watching LSU game but maybe some World Cup if convenient. I think US is playing Sunday? Not sure if there are US pub spots to consider?

I've been a few times for work (combined with Abu Dhabi) and personally would never pay my own way to go there.

Just not my type of place. I could see how some would enjoy it, but it's mostly just new, over the top, gaudy everything. The burj was pretty cool to see.
Part of it may be that I was always there when it was miserably hot.

Just left there early this morning...not a fan (i only go there for work and am always ready to leave0...but the weather is changing, so it is their best time to visit.
Dune Buggy - get out into the desert and try not to kill yourself
It is just mall after mall to me...if you like that stuff, great...there are great aquariums as an example. Just not for me.
If you want food recommendations, let me know what you like as I know some great restaurants.
As for Sports bars...I like McCaffertys in Circle Mall as they will show the World Cup (saw the signs this weekend, but was there for rugby) and Irish Village. Both have rooftops that are great this time of year.

Been here 8 days now, work has dominated most of the trip so haven’t done a lot. I almost did the Desert safari yesterday but waited too late and was sold out. That is my top priority when possible.
Weather has been great. Went to Barasti Beach club and met a lot of awesome people from seemingly every corner of globe. The view of buildings and water were as good as it gets.
Took the Metro to Dubai Mall area last night, which was an experience in itself. Mall was cool but not much more impressive than the Galleria in Houston. Dined on outside patio at Turkish spot with cool view of Burj and dancing fountains/light show.
Feels extremely safe for a big city. Hotel is top notch so that has added to overall satisfaction with trip. Leave in a couple of days but hope to return.

Also, I probably won’t venture too far from hotel tonight and US plays at 11pm Dubai time tonight. Staying in IBN Battuta area and a new sports bar called Pele is walking distance. If anyone knows of a better place in my area, feel free to recommend.
Met a big group from Wales yesterday that is flying to/from Qatar for each game. Wish the game didn’t start so late.

Dubai is very very safe...you break the law, you lose your right to work and poof, there goes your livelihood.
Zero tolerance on drinking and driving.
Example, coworker had his backpack fall out of the Uber and we could not find it. Within an hour to 90 minutes we get a call that his bag (with computer, ipad, etc) had been turned into a local police station by a taxi driver. So many cameras, as if the cab driver kept it, it would have been considered stealing.
