Larry Nance Jr. is clearly one of the key contributors to this teams success coming off the bench. With Jonas's minutes being heavily dependent on the matchup, I feel we would be in serious trouble if Nance Jr. ever missed some time.

I believe we need an additional big man off the bench that could play a similar role to Larry, given that Jax and Willy have been unable to provide the best minutes.

What is another back-up big you would want to trade for and what kind of assets would you be willing to give up?

I'd wait until Charlotte make the move to integrate and start Mark Williams and then try to trade for Plumlee.

I still feel like Kelly Olynyk is a guy that may come available if the Jazz pivot to a tank at some point....though wish Griff had just taken the Markkanen offer when it was on the table.

Also wish Jax wasnt a complete bust, such a waste of athletic talent. Hurts that much more when guys like Brandon Clarke(21st pick), Grant Williams(22nd pick) and Jalen McDaniels(52nd pick) are out there closing and winning games from that same draft class. Doing things we thought Jax would be able to do, but at a much higher level

I think Griff learned his lesson on character. Look at all of our picks post Jax.

High character intelligent guys.

Jose
Herb
Trey
Dyson
Kira
EJ

Jax is such an outlier on this team. Dumb, immature, entitled, lazy.

Griff has also just had an issue his whole career with figuring out/scouting big men.

Unless they fall into his lap(Kevin Love wanting to play with Lebron, Zion), he tends to gravitate toward guys like Favors, Adams, Bennett, and Mozgov. And often tries fitting them onto rosters where their archetype doesn't really fit with either.

Does the HC not have any input into who he needs at certain positions be it a name or a player type? Does he just work with the puzzle pieces he's given?

Obviously who he wants need to ba 1) available and 2) attainable but still I would be concerned if your HC and GM are not at least discussing these things.

Jaxson being underwhelming, to the say the least, to start the season is painful. At his best he is exactly what this team needs (A rim running, shot blocking big able to move defensively on the perimeter and hold his own in the post) but has unfortunately not developed and is wildly inconsistent.

I thought he'd put on 15lbs of good weight and added strength this off-season after a somewhat productive 21-22 season, but he seems to be the same player and again appearing to have to re-start from scratch. Phoenix would probably not entertain, as we are in the same conference, but Ayton would be a great get for the Pelicans.

Seems to be situation dependent.

I know SVG hinted he didnt have much say on the roster. Mentioned his focus was on coaching, how he was happy to go back to just coaching and not GM'ing. And Willie hinted at that dynamic a bit as well.

I think Griff likes to be the architect of his teams, for better or worse.

Hayes looks like a lost cause.
he’s getting DNP’s even when the player he started in the playoffs for (Zion) is out. Nance stepping up and balling has a lot to do with it but not all

i assume that his leaving at the end of the season will be mutual and I would not be surprised if the pels don’t even make him an RFA qualifying offer

if they do (and they should) it needs to be a one year deal, max

Interesting.

I'm sure there are coaches who say I don't care just give me 15 guys and I'll coach them up but I would imagine most coaches would want a little input into at least the type of player that they want to fit into their system. Or at least GM would want to know the player they are giving millions to is the type of player that can fit and excel in the HCs system.

Well that usually happens when you have 3 different coaches in 3 years. Willie was definitely part of the drafting process this year.

I hope that's not the case as he is a gifted athlete and plays at times with an edge this team needs. However when I saw how he reported to camp (no visible change in body composition) I was like what could he be thinking about?! Zion was coming back at the 4 and Trey obviously would eat up some of those backup minutes. His position on this team should be at the 5 contending for starter minutes but could also occasionally play at the 4 in jumbo packages. Now he's doing neither.

Olynyk would fit so well with this roster. Hopefully the Jazz hold onto him long enough to ensure that the Lakers have no shot at passing them in the standings, though.

All those minutes are going to Trey and Naji.

Because they actually worked in the offseason and got better.

I didn’t really watch him much with the Lakers, but what about Dwight Howard?

He rebounds, blocks shots, doesn’t need the ball, can run the court, and would be happy playing limited minutes.

Obviously we would need a roster spot to sign him though.

I agree with you on Olynk's offense, but I wonder if he provides the rim protection the Pels need from that spot.

He's washed up and now playing in Thailand.
