Any Porsche Cayman owners here?

Last year, I was gifted an Xtreme Xperience drive in a Porsche GT3 RS. Earlier this year I did another and drove the GT4 RS. I actually preferred the more neutral feel of the Cayman GT4 RS. Both of these cars are out of my budget....I am not an OT baller like some of you.
Since then and even before, I've been wanting to buy a Cayman. I'm not wanting to go crazy but I want a reliable car that I could daily but also enjoy a few track days. I'm looking at the 3rd Gen 781 that was made 2012-2016. Any of you own or have owned this version? Anything I should be aware of in my search?

You sure you drove a 4RS? The first deliveries are only a couple weeks old. Anyway the caymans are pretty solid from what I know. Tires and brakes are will still get pricey. Don't track a car you can't afford to ball up and walk away from. Not every event has track insurance available.

Looks like the image host cut off the front and rear of the car.

Are you trying to joy ride or track? If so you’re looking at baseline 100k to get the car up to spec and stay safe. Tires, suspension, engine maintenance will rack up. If you’re in Nola give John a call at Nolasport, he will be pretty straight with you considering he owns a GT4 team.
If you’re looking to joy ride I’d step a step up and look at a M2. Little more juice and probably similar cost.

A Cayman is one of the funnest cars you can own. 100 percent sports car, which are very rare these days. Great track machine, great daily commuter, powerful and still pretty light. Beautiful car too.

Honestly, I'm not looking to race and I'm not trying be the fastest. I want to get out there and drive as fast as I can...safely. I have been thinking about this for a while and understand the costs with brakes, tires, etc. I'm willing to pay that. However, for now I don't want to take away from how it drives for daily use. I'd only be on a track 3-4 weekends per year.

I’ve done over a dozen track days at NOLA and have never seen anyone even put a scratch on their car in that time. It’s very safe. If you’re just going to run open track days and not race or anything, the costs are minimal. All of my cars have been run bone stock with no suspension changes or anything. The only added cost is an extra oil change here and there and more frequent tire replacement. I’ve run an ‘09 911, a ‘15 Vette, a ‘19 Vette Grand Sport, and my current ‘21 Mach 1. I don’t even bother doing the camber settings on my Mach 1 and still run near the front of the intermediate group. You can run your daily driver as is - especially something like a Cayman.

Yes, I did drive a 4RS in April. From what I understand, it was 1 of about 10 delivered to the US at that time.
Pretty sure thats a GT4. The RS has a swan neck type wing, more aggressive side skirts/vents and center lock wheels. Annnnyyyway, enjoy. Agree with the first poster I had an M2 and it's a very fun car as well but the handling is just not the same as a Pcar.

I guess that means I'm more into the joy ride.

You're right! I just looked back and it was a GT4. Good eye!

I know q couple that have wrecked at Barber as well which is quite the natural progression after NOLA.

I own one and I'd say at his budget he can get a better cayman than a 996.

Not saying it can’t happen, but if you are a decent driver and don’t go crazy it’s pretty damn hard to screw up (driving in the wet is another story). And the passing rules are very strict on open track days - you can only pass in certain straights and only after the driver in front of you gives a wave-by. The wall only comes into play on the final turn into the main straight, and you have to screw up REALLY bad to tap that wall.
ETA: A stock Cayman is great for casual track days (novice or intermediate). When I bought my first Vette in ‘15, I initially tried to buy a Cayman but just couldn’t work out a decent deal. The last couple times I went, the fastest guy in intermediate was in a Camaro SS. He was beating a couple GT4 Clubsports , and I could hang with them in my Mach 1. It’s more about the driver than the car in most cases. My Mach 1 is a fantastic car built for the track right off the showroom floor though. Now the Expert class is where you have guys trailering the cars, doing major suspension stuff, running race tires, etc. That’s a whole different ball game.

I had wanted a 2014-2016 Cayman for a while too but they hold their value too good. So too expensive for me.

At the top of his budget, he can get into a early 997. Just need to budget IMS if not already completed (likely will be).
