Christ was always part of Christmas, but the church made a decision to celebrate the birth of Christ on a holiday former pagans were used to celebrating already. Jesus was more than likely not born anywhere near December, but it was much easier to celebrate his birth on a popular time of year.

The greatest PR move Christianity ever made was cucking Pagans out of their holidays.
"Jesus is taking your little sun holiday and there is nothing you can do about it. Maybe go pray to a false god about it and let me know how that works out."
