Absolutely poetic.. the fog

As the fog rolled in all I could think about was the Dan Borne article. The way he described his childhood memory of foggy nights at Death Valley gave me chills. It happened on queue last night. The place truly is haunted.

I admit it was really cool the way it rolled in at the perfect moment. The fog, the sounds, the sights, and vibration in the chest, the racing heart, the drinks spraying up into the air as the mist came down, everything combined at the right moment to create an instant classic game with the totality of Death Valley’s mystique. Then in an instant, the field turned into a sea of purple and gold as the band played those four beats. The crowd went even wilder. The stadium breathed in and out last night. It rocked, it shook, it put on a show like nothing else I’ve experienced before - ever. I stopped to make sure I took it in. I’m an alum and a lifelong fan and have been to lots of games but I’ve never been speechless like I was then. I was in awe not only of what had just played out but I was amazed - and will forever be - at how fast Brian Kelly has turned the program around. It’s unfathomable. It was a great experience that everyone there will reference as a benchmark for a generation. I took it in without my phone in my hand, this was personal and it needed to be seen with the naked eye, not through my phone’s screen. Stood there with my wife for three minutes then we promptly made our way to the field

“… it’s a sea of humanity …” is what I thought as everyone spilled onto the field.

Well there will have been 300k+ at the game by the time people tell their stories of being there so maybe the ghosts will count for something.

I kept thinking of Les Miles quote after a rainy game: There was a stiff dew

1997 Florida is easily over 500K.

That's gold there, brah.

Agree on taking it in without the phone. I like to get pics and videos here and there but sometimes you just gotta put the shite away for a while and take it in the right way. Just be in it. Magical night that I’ll talk about for the rest of my life. It’s not that “ we beat Alabama”. We have plenty more of that ahead. Just the perfect storm to make it a perfect night . I haven’t drank in 6 years but felt dizzy and almost drunk when I went out on the field after the big play. Geaux Tigers !!

As I read this post, I think of all the really loyal LSU fans who are no longer with us that never experienced the 2019 season and magical endings like last night. In particular I have to mention by name one of the greatest LSU fans I’ve known in my life who left us way too soon, Connie Kaplan. He owned the Kaplan Herald newspaper in Kaplan. LA, and I had the pleasure of attending some games with him in Tiger Stadium. The Kaplan Herald building was painted Purple and Gold. Forever LSU, Connie! Last night was for you and all the Tiger fans in the afterlife!

It was a special moment, indeed.

Was it actually fog or was it the smoke settling from the fireworks when the game was won? I want there but looked the latter on TV. Very cool if it truly was fog though

I think about that after every big game. My pawpaw died just a few days before the 2007 national championship game so he only got to see two LSU titles in his life - 1958 and 2003. Boy he sure has missed a lot.

The fog was every former Tiger and fan who have departed from us rushing the field.
