He hasn't lost. It's his hedge for furniture sales instead of buying insurance for his promotion.

All of those Neanderthal, trashy, classless citizens of Philadelphia, can suck a bag of used dildos

Philly.. I hope that disgusting cesspool, filth-ridden city gets burned to the ground by the cockroaches that live in it

So happy for the Astros and the Tigers. One of the best nights in sports I’ve ever witnessed.

Philly fan base is truly awful, screaming at their own players young children and assaulting the elderly.

Mack wasn’t having any of their shite, I love it.

He's been doing this for 40+ years, you don't really think he just laid out 75 million do you?

He has an insurance company which kicks in at a certain level on losses and wins.

It's all a marketing ploy

I think he got 11 to 1 when he placed the bet. There will be a long line picking up the checks. And the free pub is there as well. And Mattress Mack does a lot for Houston and for Veterans

You’re an idiot. You can’t buy insurance to cover a bet

How do you get one of these insurance policies to cover gambling losses?

I don’t quite understand how he pulls this off. He either loses the bet, therefore the money, but he makes it up in furniture sales? That can’t be $85million in profit?

I’m missing something but I’m not very smart sometimes.

He has a promotion for his furniture store(it’s not a small business). If the Astros win the World Series, everyone that bought gets their money back. Free furniture when the Astros win the WS. He placed these bets to cover for when they do win the World Series. Yes, he technically won $75M on sports bet. He will probably pay out $50M or more to customers from the promotion.

There are insurance companies that sell insurance for big crazy promos like this. Think about hole in one promos at golf tournaments. They always buy insurance for that. Mack chooses to use sports betting as his insurance policy to cover when the Astros win and he has to pay out. He does Math. He profits. Lots of marketing. And many believe he’s just a big gambler. Not so fast my friend.

Genius! He starts a promotion and tells people if they buy furniture between certain dates, and Team X wins the championship, the customer gets a refund on their furniture. Think about it, if you are in the market to buy furniture, why would you buy it anywhere else? There's a chance you could get it for free. Probably marks up the price higher too.

If Team X losses, he still drummed up a shitload of business over 6 months. If they win, he collects on the bets he placed and refunds the customers.

I bet all the furniture stores within 100 miles of him, hates his guts!
