I almost forget how Friday and Saturday nights were filled with horror on the TV.
I was talking to a friend about staying up on Saturdays to watch Morgus. Then went on to remember Monsters and Tales From the Darkside.
What were your favorite shows from this genre?
Tales From the Darkside
Tales from the Crypt
The new Twilight Zone
Monsters (forgotten classic, monster of the week but fun. You'll remember the intro LINK)
Alfred Hitchcock Presents
Ray Bradbury Theater
Friday the 13th (nothing to do with Jason all about getting back cursed antiques)
Freddy's Nightmares (I forgot this one until I started making the list)
Amazing Stories.
The Hitchhiker
I know we have anthology shows now. But being a kid with a TV circs 1989, you had some great late night TV.

Does the Hitchhiker on HBO count? (1983-1991) Not the USA Network version.
As one reviewer on IMDB said:
I remember some horror, mostly suspense and of course, HBO just getting started...flashes of boobage.

To get right down to it, this show makes Tales From the Crypt look like a Disney series

Brimstone on Fox was straight fire. John Glover as the Devil was perfection.

The Night Stalker and The Night Gallery. The Night Gallery was filmed in the 70’s but I watched Re-runs in the 80’s. It’s being re-run on Saturdays on one of the throw-back channels. It had an incredible cast - Joan Crawford, Larry Hagman, Richard Thomas, to name a few.

This thread made me think of Eerie Indiana back in 1991.
Loved that show as a 11 yr old.

Tales from the Crypt
I’ve got the most fond memories of this. But it may have something to do with me associating it with 1st and Ten. I don’t know if it’s because they came on back to back or I just know that the voice of the crypt keeper was the foreign kicker on 1st and Ten.
I think Hitchcock Presents was probably the best of all those you mentioned and then probably Ray Bradbury, but I don’t remember much of that. The Hitchhiker on HBO was great, too. Not sure I watched Tales from the Darkside for whatever reason, but I remember it existing. Unlike the rest of your list which I don’t remember at all.

Monsters used to come on right after Saturday morning cartoons. I remember being surprised as a kid how gory it was in places, but I loved it.

It's weird HBO Max doesn't have the Hitchhiker.
Neither does Prime.
You could probably find the sanitized USA Network version somewhere.
I think it's on Hulu.

The Hammer House of Horror had some good episodes

Not horror per se, but did anyone ever see Kurt Vonnegut’s Monkey House? It was only like 7 or 8 shows on Showtime in the late 80s or early 90s.
