Dual Job Offers - Proper Etiquette
Posted on 11/3/22 at 7:37 pm

MT folks, what is proper etiquette for the following situation?
Currently employed in Nola, but have been interviewing looking for other opportunities.
2 positions have peaked my interest and I've gone through multiple rounds of interviews, one located in Dallas and one in Nola.
The Nola job offered me the position today but I've yet to hear back from the Dallas job (last interview was Tuesday).
I will definitely accept the Nola job over my current job, but I'm partial to the Dallas job, just unsure how long it will take to get word from them.
I don't want to leave the Nola job hanging because it's a great opportunity, but I also don't want to accept it now, then potentially get an offer from the Dallas job and go back on my word.
I guess it's a good problem to have but I don't want to burn any bridges or potentially miss out on a better opportunity.
Any advice?
TIA

I would reach out to the Dallas job and let them know you got an offer from someone else, but would prefer to work for them. See how close they are to a final decision.

Call texas and ask them if and when they want to write up the offer.

In exact same position right now.
Interview process with 2 companies have gone perfectly in parallel.
Got an offer from one yesterday.
Reached out the other today and told them the situation.
Have a call tomorrow now with them to discuss.
Plan to have final decision by end of business tomorrow.
Reach out to Dallas company asap, maybe even tonight so they wake up to it.

Did they not give you any expectations on a time line? I find HR to be the most unprofessional aspect of the business world.

HRs are under the illusion - always have been - that the enterprise was created to support them....they are the Federal government of a business

I know you're probably stressed about this but don't be. This is a great position to be in and you should be proud. I'm not sure what level of the organization you're at but in mid mgmt, where I happen to be, it's not uncommon to have someone rescind their acceptance. It's happened in my department more than once. The company I work for has an excellent work environment but is known to be on the low side of the pay scale so it's trade off some folks don't want to make.

Be upfront with the co. in Tx and it could set a fire under their butt and potentially drive a rise in compensation. I would also let the company in NO. know that you are deliberating on another offer. What is the timeline your NO. expects a response by?
Great position to be in. No doubt.

Piqued. Hope your potential employers don’t find this.

For the record, I ended up accepting the offer from the second company that I reached out to to expedite the situation.
Moral of the story, always reach out to get all the cards on the table before making a decision.

Let Dallas know you need a timeline as you are managing multiple offers and don’t want to leave anyone hanging. This will force them to a decision and also let them know you are a big fish. Also let NO know you are in the interview process and will thoroughly screen your options prior to deciding.
If an offer too good to pass up present, take it.
I had no problem telling my current employer I had lots of interviewing left and they would have to wait their turn for a decision. I’ve been with them for 5 years now and they lucked out on the hire. I also am in a high demand field where jobs are EVERYWHERE.
I’m in North Dallas area also.

Thanks for the advice gents.
I reached out to the Dallas job and they expedited their process to give me a damn good offer, much higher than the Nola job. But they want me in their Chicago or Minneapolis office.
frick it, I'm packing my parka and heading North.
