I've been consistently sleeping poorly for whatever reason for a while now. I've considered getting a Whoop band for sleep tracking. I figured I could use the data to work towards better sleep. I've also considered trying to journal my daily habits for a month or so to see if I can find some data there. Can anyone provide a review of the Whoop?

How’s your sleep hygiene? I find most aren’t truly doing everything they can to get this fixed, and I would consider taking a hard look at your habits prior to dropping the cash on a Whoop.

Do you have a consistent bedtime and wake up time, even on weekend?

When do you last consume caffeine?

What’s your alcohol intake look like?

Are you looking at screens before bed?

Do you sleep with your phone next to you?

White noise? Cool room?

Frequency of laundering your sheets?

Eating close to bed?

Do you have acid reflux?

Depending on life circumstances not all of these can be modified but most can, and I would optimize these first.

I loved the Whoop but gave it up because of my OCD. I had it for about three years when it first came out. I did enjoy the sleep data but didn’t enjoy waking up and stressing out about my score.

One thing that heavily affected my sleep performance was alcohol. The next was stress.

I track my sleep and "body battery" with Garmin and yes I have become obsessive about it. When I get up to piss at night I check my body battery to see how I'm progressing with my sleep so far that night. And yes, you don't realize just much of a negative effect even 1-3 beers has on your sleep. It's mind boggling. I have cut back on drinking beer because of this.

I have a whoop and love it. The sleep journal gives you a way to track habits and timing leading to sleep trends and it gives you a statistical breakdown of how your habits like alcohol intake, processed foods, medicines, activities, caffeine, etc all help or hurt your sleep. It also tracks skin temp, HRV, RHR, and strain targets that help you fix some of your bad habits and see what things cause you to get the worst sleep. Some might say information overload and it’s not for everyone but if you actually use the data it’s great.

During the week, yes(ish). I go to bed at about 8:30 and wake up at 6. On the weekends, yes(ish), but I often stay up later on Saturday night.

When do you last consume caffeine?

Almost never after 9:30 AM.

What’s your alcohol intake look like?

A drink during the week, and more than a few on Saturday. Rarely on Sunday.

Are you looking at screens before bed?

I read and a TV is on in the background, but otherwise no.

Do you sleep with your phone next to you?

Yes.

White noise? Cool room?

Fan. Cold room.

Frequency of laundering your sheets?

Usually once per week

Eating close to bed?

Usually 6:45 - 7 PM.

Do you have acid reflux?

No

Turn the TV off. It’s blasting you with blue light.

slept great last night. gonna keep doing what I did last night to see if I can keep it up.

Been tracking on my Garmin 45. Had a 100 body battery, although I don't think it got my sleep total correct (8 hr, 38 min).

That's crazy. I'm in the 50-70 range all the time.

You should be using bed pans. Getting up to urinate is one of the leading causes of poor sleep. My urologist turned me on to these a couple years ago and it's been a game changer.

Sounds like you’re doing a lot right. Could consider cutting the alcohol down some and see if that makes a difference. This is an huge one for me. Two beers and I will be up at 3 AM guaranteed.

Agree with above about turning that TV off in the bedroom.

Glad last night went better! Don’t mess with success for sure.

Not sure exactly how.

I am glad it went better, yes.

Let me clarify: I don't have a TV in the bedroom.

I really think it's alcohol.

Why not a sleep catheter?

I just piss directly in the bed. It's more natural and is a sign of an alpha male
