Sorry guys, It's NOT the Players

I'm sorry, but I'm not buying the "It's the players being out of position" thing. Whose job is it to get them into position? Coaches.
Are we really supposed to believe that the players have been missing assignments and have not had gap discipline all year and the coaches have been trying to correct it?
We returned a pretty good defense that was #3 in the country last year. The guys were fairly experienced. Yet, we allowed Auburn and Miss. St., two atrocious offenses, one of their best games of the year. They gashed us up and down the field. Don't even start with the Florida and Georgia games.
Except for the second half of the South Carolina game (when there was a noticable change in the scheme), we have been terrible defensively all year long. There is a reason why we are not causing turnovers and are giving up big plays because players are out of position - and, it CANNOT all be laid at the feet of the players. Those same players played well last year.
Guys, as much as I hate to say it, it's coaching. And, if Miles doesn't address it this offseason, the decline of LSU football will have begun and it will not end until he gets fired. I'm saying this as a big time Miles fan who has defended him the past 3 years and only wants to see him succeed.

The only thing that was supposed by to good was our DL. Many thought the LBs and DBs would be a question mark this year.

+1
sums it up pretty good.

2 losses and you guys want the head coach fired. This is the kind of shite that cracks me up about this board.

but it's the way we lost----------typical ranter

Chad Jones is a ranter:

The head coach told him to tell that to media. In turn, the head coach should probably be fired and we all now the LSU football program is in turmoil.

I certainly don't want Miles fired, but I am defintely getting wary of supporting the Co-DCs like I was.
LSU has for several years been a hard hitting, great tackling defense with discipline (as far as assignments). That just doesn't seem to be the case this year. The defense is consistently caught out of position, is tackling very poorly, and looks confused about assignments.
W know we have the talent. It just doesn't look like the D has any discipline. And that's all about coaching.

I don't want Miles fired. That's the last thing that I want. What I want is for him to fix the problem and go on bringing us 11 win seasons every year. But, unless he recognizes what the problem is, he won't be able to fix it. I liked Gerry Dinardo his first few years too and thought he had us going in the right direction. Then, he hires Tepper and the rest is history. Bad coordinator hires WILL undo a coach if they are not corrected.
Blaming the players is not a good place to start. We have 4 stars all over the field. It isn't like they are untalented. If you can't get guys this talented to not give up 50 points in a big game, that is not the fault of the players. Coaching plays a major role.
I really hate to say this. I REALLY do. It's just the truth.

The players look confused, they don't play with any intensity, and they are caught out of position constantly. I don't know, but it sounds to me they are not buying into the scheme. If that's the case, then we need to get an established DC. I know Miles liked Pelini's schemes and wanted to keep it intact, but when the players don't buy into it, you are in trouble..

I have tried to stay as reasonable as I can on this subject, and the only conclusion I can draw is that the players aren't executing a bad game plan.

Sure, CM cann't recognize what the problems are but Joe Fan here has all the answers. What is so hard to believe bout young players not playing consistently, blowing coverages, missing gaps, etx? The Mighty Saban had more than his share of meltdowns on defenses at times, it happens when you have young players or veterans trying to make plays to overcome the mistakes of the younger players. As good as the Gator's recruiting classes were then, they still lost FOUR games the yr after their NC. It happens when you have players in transition. A program is judged over time, not 10 games or so, which seems to be the general consensus of how long we've been on a downward fall.

Sorry guy, It's(a few of)the players.

I agree somewhat. We are dealing with inexperience in the secondary.
What happened with Tennessee after they won the '98 BCS title? A bunch of stuff followed in the following years such as the cheating controversy and Fulmer's distractions with the Means case, but he also had Randy Sanders as his new offensive coordinator starting the '99 season after Cut went to Ole Miss. They had some decent seasons and even went to the SEC title game twice but they really just mired in mediocrity mainly. The difference is Fulmer was an offensive coach and could take over the offense if need be. Miles can't do that with the defense.
I don't know what'll happen at LSU and I don't think it will spiral out of control. But, I know what can happen when you hire weak coordinators in this league.

One might argue for a comparison that Bama is doing more with less talent. QB is young and experienced, making mistakes but still putting up points. The D really looks clueless.

Win/Lose Big = players.........Win/Lose Close = coaching

It's both players and coaches. It's a team game, both are part of the team. They're all a lot more motivated to do well on the field than 95% of ranters are motivated to do well in class, I wouldn't throw them under the bus.
It's still not the dominating defense it once was, definitely, but that's merely stating the obvious. Those of us who contribute financially are entitled to say what they want, the rest of us are just ranting.

The defense is horrible I agree but you can't use the argument of "They were good players last year so they will be good this year". People get lazy especially after winning and MNC. LSU in 04 was the same way. Remember Sky Green and J Vincent from 03 to 04! Just an example.

No matter who is to blame, it comes down to coaching & these guys are not getting it done.

I really don't think we finished #3 in total defense. We suck this year, but they were by no means great last year, especially the 2nd half.
