Just started the album, Reach Out is great on first listen.
On a good stereo it's evident how perfectly the album is produced. Sounds great.

I'm digging it so far. Bella and Carry me Home are really solid. Fake as frick would be good if Kiedis' lyrics weren't so damn bad. It reminds me too much of These Are the Ways.

So far I've heard it's pretty good. I'll have to check it out later when I can.

Best music to pop your shirt off and jump around aggressively to.

It is very different from their past material. Feels like they took the weird stuff from the UL sessions and put it here. John does some electronic music shite on it. His guitar work is solid though. Most of it is pretty minimalistic like Californication was but he'll let it rip from time to time.

I know this has been said so many times but flea is just on another level. You can tell he spits out bass lines like it’s nothing and the band follows his lead. Great album.
Anyone else hearing cool similarities with dream canteen and unlimited love? I know all the songs are from the same sessions but almost seems intentional at times.

Saw them last month and Flea just entered the stage doing 3+ foot knee to chest verticals…at 60. Dude seems to be getting stronger with age

I’ve enjoyed it so far. The Drummer and Carry Me Home are early favorites.

Sounds very similar to their recent output. You are right, Kiedis gets very close to the cringe line and then crosses it not only with his lyrics but also his rap delivery. Just sing dude. I like Eddie the best, but, oddly, the Frusciante solo, while very cool, is nothing like Eddie Van Halen solos. I don't always like albums the first time through, but i would say if you are a big fan you will like this one. If you are a fringe fan you will much prefer Californication and even Stadium Arcadium. I'm glad they are till out there putting out material though.

I like what I’ve heard so far today.
It’s pretty amazing to get 2 new separate albums of new material in one year from a classic band. Seems like it’s usually a 4 year minimum between albums from older artists.
Hard to believe bands used to put out an album almost every year back in the 70’s

Flea is 60? How could this ever happen?

I’ve felt this way about most of these last 2 albums unfortunately..
Kiedis seems very eager to insert vocals so soon and in places where the instrumentation around him should probably be allowed to set in/breathe on its own a bit more.
Not to the point where it ruins the listening by any means, but it is more noticeable on this album imo

This is better than Unlimited Love.

Eh, they're different. I really like this but UL is damn good too.

I agree, this is good, but Here Ever After, Aquatic, Great Apes, Whatchu Thinkin, Bastards, Braids, Veronica, Heavy Wing. UL is a great album, especially for an aging band.

This is good, but I would argue UL is a great album.

He kinda brought it up on Rick Rubin's podcast. Basically said John and Flea were coming at him with so much music so fast he didn't have time to sit down and write shite that worked and he was pulling from a ton of old stuff. Like White Braids from UL was something he wrote down back before Californication.
He's already pretty mediocre as a lyricist so I'd imagine the time crunch really hampered him.
