Neither party will do it. They want to be able to dangle it like a carrot over voter's heads.
ETA: If this is real; that’s awesome. it’s definitely a huge pander in hopes that it distracts from his failures so far, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction.

Exactly. Legalize it on the federal level and allow states to decide for themselves on the issue in their jurisdictions. That would eliminate the banking restrictions and the ever-present federal discrepancy.
