Question about attending MLB game with giveaways...

Bringing my son to an mlb game where they are giving jerseys away to the first 10k fans. Usually gates open 2 hours before the game. How much earlier do you think we should arrive before the gates open for the jerseys?

What team, what day and who are they playing?

Yea depends on the team and schedule.
I went to an angels game one time when they were giving mount Mike Trout bobbleheads and we walked in right at game time and got them but that’s the angels

There are certain Cardinals giveaways they do every year that you pretty much need to get there an hour before the game to have a chance at them. And also go to one of the less popular gates.

Yeh it definitely varies. The Royals are crazy with their Bobbleheads. I went several times and they were out even though I walked in within 15 minutes of gates opening. (Lorenzo Cain and Salvy ones specifically)

Depending upon all the aforementioned factors (time, game, opponent) this is a major key to know.
Nothing worse than going to a big giveaway in Atlanta and trying to get in through the gate by Terrapin/The Battery. Makes finding a lifeboat on the Titanic look like a Sunday stroll in the park.

If you are bringing your son, and have the time to make a memory, go in at gate opening, take in the batting practice and see if you can get some souvenirs and autographs. Then go get some chow at one of the better concessionaires or club decks while they still aren't jam packed.

Also depends on how many they give out and whether your team is still in playoff contention. Standard is first 10,000 fans. In that case, you might want to be there 45-60 minutes early.
But the Astros had a bobblehead giveaway a couple of months ago, and I think an ALCS ring giveaway coming up, where everyone got one. If that's the case, then you should get one as long as you're there before the game starts.

If its the Astros, you wont get it if its anything good.
The Astros are the worst team in baseball with promotion giveaways.
On the bobblehead days (and other ‘good’ givesways) dealers were buying 30-50 of the cheapest tickets ($8-10) and were getting a bobblehead for each ticket.
You had these assholes leaving the stadium with garbage bags full of the bobbleheads 90 minutes before the game (not even staying for the game) and if you got there 30 minutes before the game theyd say they were out.
I complained multiple times to management about how ridiculous this policy is, but never got a response. One of the many reasons I quit going to Astros games, and so glad Im done with them.

You probably need to get there around 5-5:30 to get the giveaway. Sometimes they still have them closer to 6 but mostly they are gone by then.

You can’t expect to get to a game 30 min ahead and get a giveaway for only 10,000 fans when they regularly have 30,000 attendance.

I have also seen someone at games leaving with as much as they could carry. I have been to minor league games before giving away bobbleheads or replica World Series rings. And lines all the way out to the street an hour before the game. I'm certain there were many who gobbled up as many as they could without even watching one pitch in the game. Or people with signs standing outside the stadium trying to buy the giveaways for $10. Then sell them for a lot more somewhere else the next day.
