I got dismissed after I told them I was an engineer.
Same. I was asked one question: what is your profession, told them engineer and was told thanks bye. I'm guessing somebody was going for an argument based primarily on emotion.

Is the defendant wearing his Bama jersey in court?
Are they using the "he needed killin" defense?

What part of "don't discuss the case until the judge tells you," didn't you understand?
You should look up what happened to the Go Judge. This is a terrible, absolutely terrible, idea to post about an active case.

Just had this experience a few months ago. Very interesting experience. Be prepared to be astounded by what you will hear during deliberations. My. case was open and shut to most of us but some of the defendants “peers” were simply not willing to convict. Some arguments were that “she brought this on”, “his son will have to grow up without a daddy”, etc. Unanimous decisions are hard to get to. We finally got to manslaughter after 2 full days of deliberation.
I had the same experience. It was a first degree rape case, which carries a mandatory life sentence in LA. Same ridiculous reasoning and they were on their phones while we were a hung jury. I had to ask them to put them down and pay attention
One of the jurors even said “Uh I voted not guilty but I don’t want to say why”

Next time let it be known you are a staunch supporter of the electric bleachers.
You’ll be home by lunch.
You’re welcome.

Would be cool to check it out...if it's a good case.
Ive gotten the letter 3 times. Once I sat around all day and never got called up. Next time I sat around a bit, then they came in and said #s x thru y meet in the foyer as we were going to juvenile court. I went to the bathroom and when I got back they had split the group in half and I happened to walk up to the half they said could go home. The last time I got the letter was a few weeks before shut downs for CV came up, so then I eventually got a letter to not come in.

Pretty scary to think that average joes get to decide someone's fate. I hate the jury "of peers" system.
Your alternative would be?
Better rules to direct trials to the appropriate setting.
Tort reform to toss out bullshiat cases, including punishment for plaintiffs and lawyers that abuse the system.
Clear cut sentencing rules for crimes.
More judge trials. Arbitration. Professional juries.
I don't want some high school dropout crackhead from south Atlanta sitting on a jury if I am ever on trial, nor would they probably want me on their jury.

quote:The way it works here is they release the alternate(s) when the jury gets the case. None of the 13 or 14 know who the alternate is until that moment.
Not yet, but if I argue too much tomorrow they may vote to make me an alternate, not sure how that works yet.

Picked for a jury trial, young lad with three kids and a wife were test driving a used vehicle on a neighborhood street when got pulled over for no tag, no insurance etc for about 1500 dollar in fines. He asked for a jury trial on the basis that the fines were beyond his ability to pay and no one in the sheriffs office would talk to him. He actually said in court that factually the charges were correct but an unfair hard hit.
As jurors we discussed the situation and returned a verdict of not guilty on all counts. The judge choked and started to say, but he admitted guilt, before he shut down and said case dismissed

I hope one of your fellow jurors says something about or mentions "jury nullification" so yall can see the judge and the prosecutor go nuts and pitch a fit.
