Mine was Charley in 2004. 100+mph winds. Possibly produced a tornado in our neighborhood, had that terrifying freight train sound. Most homes in CFL are block, but we could still hear/feel every piece of lumber in the roof flexing and creaking. Took out at least 1 tree in every yard of the neighborhood.

Luckily no damage to our house somehow.

I was 17 and we got off school for 2 weeks. Without power for almost as long.

Mine was Sally a couple years ago. It caught alot of people of guard because it was a weak storm for most of the way and then blew up right before land. My dad says it doesn't compare to Frederic, but the main reason it was bad for me was because a tree crashed through my living room around 3am. I'm thinking it was most likely a quick tornado that touched down. I can't imagine what going through a direct hit cat 4 or 5 would be like.

We usually get out if it will be bad.

We were here for Zeta. It was kinda crazy when the roof shingles and the siding started popping off.

I never felt in danger, though.

Ida. I had to lean against my front door for 5 hours to help keep the water from leaking through. Thankfully no major damage though.

I got Ida’s eyewall for about two hours and that was the most intense weather I’ve ever experienced first hand.

I rode out Gustav in Pierre Part, which took a direct hit from the eastern eyewall. I remember the house breathing/flexing for hours.

I also narrowly missed Ida's eyewall in Gonzales, but it never quite got as bad as Gustav did for me.

Katrina-central Mississippi, but still lost power for nine days. And tons of trees down.

Andrew. It's been the only time in my life I legitimately felt like I was in mortal danger. We did some stupid shite, and I really did not know in that moment if I was still going to be alive after the next hour.

My parents live in Donaldsonville and figured they’d been hit way harder from Ida than me where I am along the Ascension/Livingston line. Drove there the next morning and I was shocked to see that they were relatively unscathed compared to my area. The angle a hurricane comes in at makes all the difference, especially on the western side.

Gustav in Pierre Part must’ve been downright scary.

Ida. 4-6 hours of strong winds and the sound of my roof ripping off my house, horrible sound. Water blowing in through the window sills and leaking through the ceiling.

We lived on a river, so we had storm surge from the lakes pushing water in - house was on piers so wasn’t worried about it flooding the house. But a house on piers really sways in hurricane force winds.

The aftermath was like we were living in a third world country.
