re: Andor (Disney+) Season Thread

I’m really liking this show. It’s great to have Star Wars not be for morons again. I’m not saying the OT or Rogue One are some highbrow artsy movies, but compared to the Sequel Trilogy and most of BOBF they certainly feel that way.
My only fear for the show is that I’m seeing a lot of push back on the pace and “sucks…” from numerous places. I hope Disney doesn’t listen and get too reactive to criticism. That’s how we end up with another Rise of Skywalker.

Exactly. I definitely like the feel of it and it has my attention. I was out on Obi Wan after two episodes.

I made it half way thru Ep 1 before I turned it off. I will say the production value is very nice. Filmed well and it does feel like a Star Wars film. It’s just I don’t care about Andor or his back story. He is not interesting at all. He was the most boring and least interesting character from Rogue One and I thoroughly enjoyed that film. The should have done an origin story of the blind monk and his buddy if they wanted to expand on the cast from Rogue One.

This show is definitely for adults.
You're creating something that doesn't exist.
Star Wars (ep 4) is adventure for all ages, ala Errol Flynn Robin Hood. Grownups can still like dashing, daring heroics.
Ep 5 ESB gets more grounded, more young-adult oriented.
Ep 6 ROTJ gets simultaneously more adult, and with the Ewoks more kiddie-friendly.
They've tried to veer all around the age map, having cutesy critters, sassy kids, etc. It's a tough fit, since there's always peril, and at times some family dynamics at play... but overall they try to make things from 8 to adult.
In this one, there is no cute appeal to the youngest crowd, and no "wow, that's so fricking cool!" high-flying adventures. It's a serious show, not very wholesome. I haven't seen Ep 4 yet.
So far, Andor lives in an oppressed world, and he's not a good person. He's a lowlife thief, and kills some guys, one in cold blood because he doesn't want to get caught, and it doesn't bother him. He justifies killing, because he fricking hates that side and believes they deserve anything that happens.
And he finds a purpose in the Rebellion, because they need guys who have no issue killing anyone for their cause.
That was not present in the old Star Wars, unless early on with Han.

Did anyone else pause and look at the stuff in the antique shop, where Stellan met the Senator?
My son and I perused what was on display...
A Mandalorian chestplate
Tablets with Open Hand, and Closed Fist symbols
A Sith- looking helmet
A Gungan energy shield
A Tusken Gaderffi stick
At one point, on the shelf behind the senator, both:
a Jedi Holocron cube,
and right next to it,
a Sith Holocron pyramid
a two-headed snake, almost looked like from Thulsa Doom (Conan)
And of course, he gave Andor a crystal that he said was from the uprising against the Rakatan Empire

I actually was excited during the meeting when talking about the increased construction expenses going to Skarif. Since the Death Star is currently being hidden there while being built after being moved from Geonosis. A planet that seemed to meet a similar end to the one that Andor is from.
Sounds like they may run the series right up the start of Rogue One.

Lucas has stated all along his Star Wars movies were always made for 12yo kids or kids in general. Why in the past he has bashed critics of the prequels when they complain they are so kid driven and friendly.

Star Wars hit a sweet spot for demographics, like I said similar to an Errol Flynn movie decades earlier.
You could say it was made for kids, but every age enjoyed it.
They've struggled since then, to hit the same exact tone.
They've put things in to try to appeal to everyone, but we've gone up and down the age ladder with things. Some of the kid stuff annoys adults, some of the grownup stuff bothers kids.
Mandalorian was probably closest, because it's a straight Spaghetti Western set in space.

This as I think those who originally saw the OT saw it as kids. We grew up and our expectations are different but those making the movies are still targeting the same kids they were targeting when we watched it.

I have really enjoyed the show so far. I'm currently on episode 4. Sure it's a slow burn, but my favorite part so far has been seeing the Empire deal with this large galaxy they "control." I find that fascinating and much more intriguing that the actual storyline. I'm not too invested in Andor himself, but I really am invested in finding out more about the Empire, it's politics, and it's structure. Surely there will be a series from the Empire's point of view at some point in the near future.

I really am enjoying this show.
The one thing I will say is because it is a slow burn, Disney probably should have considered a different release model than week to week. People don't have the attention span for slow burns. They may have been better off with either a season drop or releasing 2 episodes per week.

When do the episodes drop. Thought it was Tuesday but don't see new one.
I'm enjoying it. Not my favorite but good enough to watch.

Honestly, I don't love this series, but I don't hate it. Through the first 3 episodes, what really struck me was it felt like the scenes weren't story-boarded properly. The scenes were each well-shot, well-acted, well-costumed, etc, but the scenes themselves often felt like they didn't lead to one-another well. Even though the story isn't complicated, it just feels...off.
I don't hate this series, it's not bad, but there's something wrong with it, and I just can't quite put my finger on it.
I did enjoy episode 4 more than the previous ones. I like the setup with Andor having a heist mission. Seems like a fun setup with the little terror cell. The scene with the antiquities dealer was also super cool and filled with plot, character development, world-building, and tons of easter eggs.
It's very clear that this series got the A-squad production team where as "Kenobi" looked and felt unbelievably low budget. Andor looks fantastic.

It’s been okay so far to me, episode 3 was fantastic.
My wife is bored out of her mind with all the jargon being spewed constantly.

This weeks episode was pretty decent. A little bit more character development setting up for next weeks big heist. Should be a really good one next week.
The pace is kinda slow, but I think it will pay off in a huge way.
Marvel has really spoiled people in to thinking you need action all the time to advance a story. This show is building the tension, and I love that it is being done this way.

I liked it and we still have 7 episodes left. Knowing the heist is about to happen can not wait to where we end up in the end of this season.

It's a Star Wars series.
Some people want that to mean a deeper look inside the world of Star Wars, while others want an action show that happens to reference Star Wars stuff.
I like the deeper dive.

Same and wish it was not only 2 seasons. This is 5 years prior to Rogue One and they could really make a few more seasons with the writing so far.
