Trying to convince myself I’m not screwing up, small rain chances for Sunday/Monday but then no rain in the forecast for the following week. We normally plant the last wknd of sept or the first wknd of Oct but I really want to hunt opening weekend.
First world problem of the day…

Nope, way too hot dry and early, fight the urge , do all your prep and wait till October

Best bet is to wait until at least first week of October. Between the heat and army worms its not worth it.
I bush-hogged sunday and had the same feeling.

Got my spot all tilled up, I'm going to wait until the next really good chance of rain and go plant right before. It looks like that won't be for a few weeks according to the forecast.
I've made the mistake of planting too early too many times.

Might throw down a sack of iron clay peas to try to get a good hunt on before I plant the fall mix just for the hell of it

Make no mistake.....it is always a good idea to go to the camp. just don't do that physical work. sit around watch/listen to a ball game, and have too many drinks.
Maybe some target practice for the kids.
just tell the wife the process takes more than one weekend. If your wife is like mine, she is happy to have a quiet weekend.

It’s too early. I’m clearing roads with the dozer today so we can clip some of the plots on the back of the place. It’s freaking hot and the ground is hard. We plan on planting October 20-21 as of now. Way to much seed and fertilizer to chance it this early .

My neighbor planted Labor Day weekend, got about a half inch of rain the next day and nothing since, his plot sprouted about an inch and is now suffering through the drought, neighbor is very worried, we will see how it goes

We would usually plant in late September and Ida pushed us all the way to the 3rd week in October last year. We had the best plots that we’ve ever had. Will stick with late October from now on.
