This was all over the scoreboard but needs to be discussed soberly. This guy, a true freshman, is on the field for the vast majority of plays and continues to make awful mental mistakes:

- not making it OOB at the end of FSU
- blocking the wrong guy on the PAT and literally losing the game
- stepping OOB on his own while uncovered
- a couple of two-hand drops

Let’s say for the sake of discussion Bech really is hurt and on a snap count (if not he should be taking all of MT’s snaps no questions asked). Mashburn is our best blocking TE and has shown surprising receiving abilities, while K. Taylor doesn’t play up to his size but at least has some experience.

It just doesn’t make sense to keep making a kid who just isn’t mentally ready such a focal point of our offense.

Like I said let’s assume that’s true - still would rather have one of the more experienced TE’s in on 11 personnel.

So true freshmen shouldn't make true freshman mistakes.

The drops were passes that were poorly thrown. One was pretty far behind him, if he was able to stop his momentum In time to catch it, he would have been stopped for no gain anyway

Mason just isn’t Fetch

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills here - the guy basically lost the FSU game twice: if they correctly mark him down in bounds we’re having to run up and frantically throw to the end zone. Then the extra point. Then last night he just wanders out of bounds.

The point is he shouldn’t be in those spots in big games yet.

Dumb take. There's going to be growing pains with all the freshmen we have playing, but they're gonna be cornerstones of Brian Kelly's program going forward.

The two drops against Miss St. we’re not on him. Those were shite throws. The rest of it is expected growing pains. The Kelly/Denbrock offense needs TE, and he is the best we got, so get used to it. I love Bech, but he is not a TE, stop trying to make that happen.

Okay, in some cases this is unavoidable, like with our OTs. Or someone like Perkins who’s just a monster.

But, again assuming Bech is injured or just doesn’t want to play flex TE, we still have two veterans at that position who aren’t likely to make these mental errors.

So put Mashburn and Kole in those spots in the big games and let Mason have his growing pains in games like SU and NMST.

Bech isn’t playing TE. He’s playing WR.

Mashburn is our best blocking TE, that is true. Mason Taylor looks like a better receiving TE (right now, as a true freshman) than Kole or Mashburn. He’s going to be a very good player for us.

Your frustration should lie in the fact that we don’t have an experienced every-down TE on the roster, not that Mason Taylor is getting so many snaps.

M Taylor is getting baptized by fire. I do agree that we need experience in critical situations like Mashburn blocking on XPs, FGs etc or in the run game.

Bech is a WR not a TE. The idiotic previous coaching staff were the ones that for some reason wanted him to be a TE. Honestly If he wasn’t a white dude this wouldn’t even be a thought.

Kole Taylor is a bad blocker and an even worse receiver. Mashburn is a good blocker. Mason Taylor has the higher upside.
