Just received a call back from the dermatologists from a biopsy I had done 3 weeks ago.

A dime sized spot on my arm is basal cell carcinoma and they scheduled surgery for next month to try to remove it.
I guess 50 years of being out on the water and in the sun is catching up with me.

Anyone have any positive feedback on this situation?

You will be fine. One of the most common types of cancer and it’s overwhelmingly successful once the docs have caught it.

My father has had upwards of 10 surgeries. Most haven't been cancerous but a few have. They basically cut it out and check the margins/numbers after and make sure they have it all. He is mostly stricken to inside and no physical activity after the surgery.

It's a battle for him

I had MOHS surgery on my arm a little over a year ago. It's not that bad but the caring of the wound the first couple weeks or so is a bit of a pain. Tefla bandages and petroleum jelly, you'll get well acquainted with them

6-8 months ago, maybe longer. Not 100% sure

Just thought it was a scrape or something from working on various things.

Glad you caught it early. I've had muliple spots of malignant melanoma, the only bad thing about the surgery is the lidocain shots because they dont put you to sleep for the procedure.

One good rule of thumb among a few to spot skin cancer is, if its bigger than the size of a pencil eraser, go get it checked out now.

Removing the surface is easy.

Hopefully it has not spread to your lymph nodes. From there is can travel throughout the body.

Best of luck moving forward. Not a fun process.

Mohs surgery is pretty straightforward. Done at the dermatologist office. They'll cut it out, put it under a microscope and let you know if they got it all. If not, they'll cut some more. When done, it's a few stitches at most

Glad you're on top of it. My mom ignored her signs and by the time it was diagnosed it was too late.

From here on out, SPF 50 is your friend. Neutrogena makes SPF 70 for the face. I recommend that as well.

Good luck.
