This is the #1 point about our defensive woes

Look, you can debate the why of it all you want but here's the MAIN point. Simply put, Miles made a silly error in his choice to replace Pelini. The LSUs, Alabamas, Floridas, Ohio States, Oklahomas and so on of the world are places that when they need a DC they go out and hire a freakin DC!!! Just as when they need a HC, they tend to almost always go find a PROVEN HC. LSU is not the place for some dude(or dudes) who are trying to find out IF they are good DCs.
I was befuddled why Miles made such a silly decision then but hey, since up to that point, he'd been pretty good for us, had to at least give him the benefit of the doubt.
Now, the real test comes. I mean hey, Miles is human. He made a mistake and unfortunately, it really aint fixable mid-season. BUT, the real test comes after the season. Is he going to pull a Dinardo/Tepper on us and be "loyal" or is he going to hire a freakin REAL DC??
As it is, let's be honest here, he has hurt us in recruiting on the defensive side of the ball. If you had no allegiance to LSU and were being recruiting by Bama, Texas and LSU on defense; you can't seriously argue that LSU would have ALOT of explaining to do.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents. The facts speak for themselves. While one can argue that this year's defense should've had some fall off given thre lost personnel(and I'd agree), one cannot rationally argue that LSU should be one of the worst defenses in the SEC. THAT my friends is a coaching issue.

agree with everything except with the defensive recruiting, i think we have the best talent on defense but its coaches job to develop that talent
WE NEED A REAL DC

I'm referring to upcoming recruiting. No getting around that this year is going to end up a hole in recruiting that will be noticed 2-3 years from now.

agreed.
LSU should not be lower tier in SEC defense.
not after the success they have had.

good post and I agree 100% except for the recruiting thing also. I believe that LSU has brought in excellent talent its just raw and young.

Again, I'm not referring to past recruiting. I'm saying that this year will CERTAINLY damage this year's recruiting on defense.

i think we have awesome committs on the defensive side of the ball this year as well as last year...heck we have bunch of 5 stars out there in the backfeild that are ready to contribute, but 1st they need to be coached on what to do...right now they looked lost and they aren't comfortable with our defensive scheme put together by our awesoem co-DC

Just sayin.

Well, I can't agree with you here. If you look at our commitment list thus far, we have secured some very impressive defensive players. And, apparently, we are in good shape with McFarland.
Other than that, though, I agree.

if i'm not mistaken, UF had co DCs b/c meyer didn't get rid of Charlie Strong (Zook era) b/c he was exceptional; Meyer simply called it "co" to give some DC duties to his boy coming with him from Utah...meaning he already had a proven SEC DC waiting in Strong.

Maybe Miles made a silly choice, but LSU has had success with them last year.
Make no mistake about it, just like Auburn and just like Bama, those head coaches are the DC's despite whom they have on staff. They have heavy imput on the schemes. At some point, you just can't go out and get a proven DC because of cost and other factors (desire to be HC, etc). Taking a chance on a unproven or promoted coordinator (hello Bob Stoops, Richt, Mike Gundy).
LSU from the recruiting standpoint and slacking off is a bit silly. LSU has the PICK of the litter in LA, plus they have the hardware to prove success when going out of state.
Not all is well, but let's not throw the guy under the bus yet. Two pretty powerful offenses have done damage, but that does not mean that all is lost.
Just beat Bama.

And that was smart. Woulda been cool if Muschamp said yes. But, I'm guessing that there are 1 or two other good PROVEN DCs out there.
Just sayin.........
