How did long snapper, Slade Roy get down field fast enough to recover the muffed punt. I was under the impression that only the gunners could leave on the snap

No one blocked him. He had a straight run to the player and made a great play.

Helped the punt had great hang time.

Clearly that was the turning point of the game. It may be that we look back at the end of the year and say it as the turning point of the season.

Well long snappers get down their as quickly as the gunners on our special team designs. Great jog by him, though.

Free release
Avoid blocker(s)
Shorter path than gunners on a middle punt

Lots of punt tackles made by long snappers

Not many muffs (usually), so much fewer opportunities to make a big play on those

Gunners only is an nfl rule i believe.

Long snappers are consistently one of the first downfield.

Center and gunners are the only ones who release on the snap. They are usually the first ones down field

Long snappers usually are one of the first ones down there. No one can touch them so they have a free shot to get down there.

Hell he was in the returners face about 2 seconds before the returner muffed it, he moved out the way right as the ball came into the returners hands… it was well played
