To everyone bitching about special teams

And wanting to fire Coach Polian, you need to take a chill pill. All off-season, most posters on here we’re worried about our OL, CB’s & LB’s. All 3 of those units played pretty well in game 3 this weekend. They all have shown tremendous improvement since Sept 4th.
Let’s see if the Special Teams get better and more consistent each week before you start firing or reassigning coaches or criticizing 18 and 19 year olds. Many of these kids were the best player on their high school teams and did not play on kicking teams.
Everybody try to R-E-L-A-X & enjoy the season.

Usually special teams are littered with players who see no significant playing time. Some of these guys are even walk on players. One of the easiest things to fix is putting some of your starting defensive guys in those positions. Unfortunately, you risk injuries but if you want it fixed, that is one way to do it.

We saw a lot of improvements last night with the team. I get the special teams concerns though. We have total mental lapses there at times as well. Like when our punt returner tried to jump on a horrible punt that was going to give us great field position regardless and he jumped on it as it was bouncing around a bunch of MSU players and the whole stadium had to hold its breath to see who came out with the ball.
We did have great coverage on the ball that we recovered though after MSU's guy fumbled.

It’s not just coverage, blocking on the first pat looked rough. Kicking out of bounds. Players catching punts inside the 5,

Ok, but we never had to make up all these excuses with McMahon as coach.

It is possible he thought the ball hit one of our players... the ball came very close to one of our players who's back was to the ball.

A couple of thing to consider as to why people are hyperventilating over special teams:
1. LSU is 2 - 1 and special teams is a huge reason why we have 1 loss.
2. The other areas you sight have shown improvement… special teams has not.

Our special teams have clearly been extremely poor so far this year. However, our punt and kick return teams were pretty abysmal last year. We finished 106th in the nation in punt returns and 99th in kickoff returns. We finished 117th in long kickoff return plays. And we were 89th in opponent punt returns. So the poor special team's play has been an issue beyond this season in certain aspects.

The special teams are terrible across the board and it isn’t because there are scabs on them. Punt and kick-off coverage is terrible. The guy fielded a punt inside the 5 and the excuse about falling on the ball because it was close to someone is garbage. It wasn’t 10 yards. That guy thought it was a kick-off.
There is zero awareness or strategy to those teams.
