Cool, and bragging about salary and days off on the OT is cool now…great.

I don't think he was bragging, just stating.

Wanna hear the perks of me getting two science degrees from LSU? No, frick no you don’t.

How about this, no one would have power or gas if it weren’t for welders…if you posted that you were downstream welder that made $140k with overtime it would be douchey, just the like OP.

Know your fricking audience.

I too might see this as a job to coast into retirement if it wasn't for the whole backing up thing.

Undergrad was physics with second discipline in nuclear science…went to grad school in EE since I worked at CAMD and there were projects I could jump on.

I micro-machined Teflon with soft X-rays for my thesis and got an MS focused on electronics. At some point in my career at nasa I had the opportunity to get into fracture mechanics, and I’ve done that for 15 or so years, for multiple ME companies.

I predict fracture safe-life, whether brittle or plastic collapse, on ground based pressure assets for government sites…housing all flavors of non-Code pressure systems with exotic materials of construction.

(See, not cool to talk about on the OT)

My knuckles aren’t sonic worthy.

ETA: I’m a nice guy too, but making fun of ill conceived OPs on here is what we do…I can’t be a villain because his actual job is one we need badly.

So do linemen, welders, engineers, mechanics, software developers, and hundreds of other trades and professions. Are we supposed to thank everyone for showing up and drawing a check?

I'm surprised Werner pays this well. What are you making per mile? If not by the mile, how are you paid?

Are you leasing your truck through them?

How long you been driving? Did you go to a driving academy? Was getting the license a pain in the arse?

I been thinking about doing this. I’ve been a plant baw for 26 years and to be honest, I’m fricking tired of that life.

Would like to spend the next 10 years driving/seeing the country while coasting into retirement.

yes you attend a cdl school and get your license. It's a process but not a pain in the arse. Go to one near your home or go to one that the carrier has their own school. They got housing etc. You'll have some classes but mostly learn how to pre trip a truck, get plenty of reps on different angled backings and drive with your instructor daily. Once you test out , you go to dmv and get your license. Many companies will contact you with a recruiter and set up your orientation and training which last about a month. Its thats simple. For my company, I got paid 850 a week for orientation and training. Now I average about 1800 a week. Insurance is excellent for most big carriers with low deductibles. There are different types of routes, home time or away to pick from that fits your personality. I was in a previous profession for a bit also, left and I'm loving this new gig. Your assigned a transportation manager that assigns your loads to deliver but other than that your pretty much on your own. You can have your wife/gf/dog etc on the truck with you if you desire also. Biggest surprise in this profession is the amount of females drivers. Stack money and really you can earn as much as you want based on work time desired. My truck is fully equipped with a fridge, microwave, bedding etc for nights away from home. Owner operators make over 200k easy and much more if you manage your truck like correct business does. I'm just a company guy and just fine with it. Seeing the country will happen of you chose to. You can even set your resets and use some extra days, park the truck near a vacation spot, get a car rental and hop over to where u wanna be. Some companies even have time shares all over the country and are free to drivers to use when scheduled in advance. Like any profession there are pros and cons. The key to trucking is finding the right fit(company) and things are usually all good. Trucking has a HUGE shortage of drivers. Anyone who is serious about it will get a job quickly. Many companies higher right out of school as you'll be bombarded with recruiters trying to get you to work for them. Good luck brother.

Yessir, I’ll volunteer for a good 10-11 hours tomorrow. By myself, and I’ll work with precision and take pride in simply doing something for my community. Absolutely.

My BIL tried trucking for a while after he got out of the Navy. His second solo trip he got stuck on an iced up mountain road where he couldn't go forward or back without sliding. That was the end of his trucking career.
