Can someone please give me a compelling reason on why you think it's wrong for the chacater in the kids movie to be black?
I can only speak for myself here.
I don’t have a problem at all with a character being black. This girl is attractive and she’ll be easy on my eyes if/when I take my daughter to see this movie. No problem at all with her race.
What I do have a problem with, however, is Disney intentionally going out of their way to cast the mermaid actress as a black girl when the original was white. My daughter loves the mermaid so I showed her the preview a few days ago. She just stared at it with a look of confusion on her face. She could tell it was very different than what she’s used to. It’s supposed to be a remake but it’s not the same at all.
Intentionally casting the mermaid as a black girl is just as racist as only having white people in their movies. Having a black mermaid is not a problem at all. Intentionally having a black mermaid is a huge fricking problem, though. I’m not racist but I do recognize bullshite racism when I see it.
If they want to bring diversity to their screen, make new movies with black characters. Don’t remake original movies with black characters just to appease the woke crowd because it makes no sense.

If your child looks at someone and distinguishes them by their race, that’s on you Buddy

Or use African fairy/folk tales - there are plenty

The irrational belief in an inherent agenda behind things like this can be a sight to behold.

Maybe, just maybe... the VOICE of the Little Mermaid is the most important part of the character, since it is central to the plot and everything. The Little Mermaid needs to be able to belt out some powerful notes, and being live action they couldn't just lipsynch it.

Disney could have just made a movie about the Little Mermaid’s best friend who lives on the other side of the reef who happens to be an AA mermaid and avoided all this controversy.
